HORRIFYING footage shows the ground opening up beneath a busy road and swallowing a parked car.
The giant sinkhole appeared early yesterday morning on Chicago's south side, pulling two motors into the sewer system below.
The fire department arrived on the scene just in time to film a third car disappearing into the ground as the road gave way beneath it.
According to local news reports, one person was also pulled into the sinkhole.
They were taken to hospital and are said to be in a serious-to-critical condition.
Chicago was hit by more than five inches of rain overnight on Wednesday, causing widespread flooding and road closures.
But Water Department Commissioner Thomas Powers insists the Windy City's 100-year-old sewer system is to blame for the hole.
