Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born on 15 September 1977 in Enugu,
Nigeria, the fifth ofsix children to Igbo parents, Grace Ifeoma and
James Nwoye Adichie.
While the family's ancestral hometown is Abba in Anambra State,
Chimamanda grew up in Nsukka, in the house formerly occupied by
Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe. Chimamanda's father, who is now
retired, worked at the University of Nigeria, located in Nsukka. He
was Nigeria's first professor of statistics, and later became Deputy

Compass, a magazine run by the University's Catholic medical students.
At the age of nineteen, Chimamanda left for the United States. She
gained a scholarship to study communication at Drexel University in
Philadelphia for two years, and she went on to pursue a degree in
communication and political science at Eastern Connecticut State
University.
While in Connecticut, she stayed with her sister Ijeoma, who runs a
medical practice close to the university.
Chimamanda graduated summa cum laude from Eastern in 2001, and then
completed a master's degree in creative writing at Johns Hopkins
University, Baltimore.
It is during her senior year at Eastern that shestarted working on her
first novel, Purple Hibiscus , which was released in October 2003.
The book has received wide critical acclaim: it was shortlisted for
the Orange Fiction Prize (2004) and was awarded the Commonwealth
Writers' Prize for Best First Book (2005).
Her second novel, Half of a Yellow Sun (also the title of one of her
short stories), is set before and during the Biafran War. It was
published in August 2006 in the United Kingdom and in September 2006
in the United States. Like Purple Hibiscus, it has also been released
in Nigeria.

2005-2006 academic year, and earned an MA in African Studies from Yale
University in 2008.

Lewandowski closing in on Manchesterr United Switch
ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI is set to complete an £18million move to Manchester
United in the summer.
The Borussia Dortmund striker will be offereda contract worth £80,000
a week over five years.
That £20m jackpot doubles the money the Pole, 24, is paid by the German champs.
It will also be seen as a huge statement of intent by United boss Alex Ferguson.
His side have already netted 48 League goals in 19 games this season —
11 more than second-highest scorers Chelsea.
Dortmund had to fend off interest from United last summer, after
Lewandowski hit 30 goals to lead them to a German League and Cup
double.
The player's contract is up at the end of next season.
His refusal to sign a new one means Dortmund have decided to cash in
rather than lose him on a free.

Woman Kidnapped, Raped In Her Car For 5 Hours On Christmas Day
Three teenage boys kidnapped woman, 22,on Christmas, robbed her and
raped her forfive hours even after she vomited on them.
A young woman's Christmas—and her life—was shattered Tuesday when she
was kidnapped, raped, robbed and beaten in her own car by three
teenagers over the course of five hours, according to police.
"You'll get sick in the stomach," said Upper Darby Police
Superintendent Michael Chitwood, before reciting the facts of the
case.
Around 11:40 p.m. Christmas night, the 22-year-old victim was in her
Jeep Cherokee, waiting for her boyfriend to come out of a nearby bar,
when three men—one of whom had a gun—forced their way inside of her
vehicle, Chitwood said. They made the woman move to the back seat and
drove her around Philadelphia for hours, police said. One by one, the
men took turns in the back seat, forcing the victim to perform sex
acts, even after she repeatedly vomited on them, according to court
documents.
The men hit her on multiple occasions and robbed her of her Coach
purse, wallet, car stereo, cell phone, camera, GPS, ruby ring, diamond
necklace, bracelet and her insurance-and-registration paperwork,
according to police.
After going through her belongings, the men realized the victim had
a2-year-old daughter and they threatened her life and the child's life
if she said anything to authorities. They then parked the car at Long
Lane near Marshall Road, told the victim they would throw the keys
under the car and fled on foot. The woman waited for several minutes,
grabbed her keys and drove to her boyfriend's house, and they both
went to thepolice station.
In a bizarre twist, authorities took less than an hour to track down
the alleged attackers after police were called to an Upper Darby home
to respond to a disturbance. A woman had called 911 saying a teenager
staying overat her house with her son was bragging about having a gun.
When officers, who knew about the vicious rape, arrived at the home,
they discovered four teens—two of whom were the woman's sons and one
of whom, Kevin Jones, said he was a friend of the woman's sons who
stayed at the house so he could illegally attend Upper Darby High
School, police said. The fourth teen at the scene, Kewon Matthews,
said he was a friendto Jones, according to police.
Inside the house, the observant officers spotted a Coach handbag that
matched the one stolen from the rape victim, Chitwood said.
After confirming with the woman in the house that the bag was not
hers, police opened it and found some of the victim's stolen items
inside. The victim was then brought to the house where she identified
Matthews and Jones, both 17, as two of her attackers, Chitwood said.
The sons of the woman who owns the house were questioned but not
charged with any crimes. After the arrest of Matthews and Jones,
policewere able to identify the third suspect as Brehon Rawlings, 19,
of Yeadon, Chitwood said. Rawlings was found hiding in the bathtub of
his home around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
All three men were charged as adults with kidnapping, rape, robbery
and related offenses and are being held on $500,000 baileach. They are
scheduled for a preliminary hearing on New Year's Eve day.

My baby's delivery news was a prank- Shakira
Thursday evening, the Internet was buzzing with news that Shakira had
given birth to her son. And, for good reason: Her boyfriend Gerard
Pique tweeted about it!
The Spanish footballer wrote about the birth of their first child in
Spanish: "Ya ha nacido nuestro hijo! Estamos muy felices! Gracias a
todos por vuestros mensajes!" Translated: "Our son has been born! We
are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages."
Well, there's one slight issue: It was Día de los Santos Inocentes
(Day of Innocents), a holiday recognized in Spain and Mexico that's
sorta kinda likeApril Fool's Day. It's full of pranks and tomfoolery
to celebrate Mary and Joseph tricking King Herod by smuggling Jesus
out of Bethlehem before he could kill him.
So, it's believed that Pique decided to trick all of his 4. 7 million
Twitter followers into believing he'd become a dad, in honor of the
holiday. All in goodfun, right?
Shakira is actually supposed to give birth in mid-January. She was
most recently seen out on Christmas Day shopping for gifts in
Barcelona. While itis possible that she did actually give birth, her
own Twitter page has been silent since Monday and it's likelier that
she's hanging out enjoying her last month of pregnancy and getting
ready to usher in 2013.

Shakira gives birth to baby boy
Christmas may have passed, but Shakira and her beau of nearly two
years, Gerard Pique, have just gotten a very special gift. The pair
has welcomed a baby boy into their lives just four months after their
official announcement that Shakira was expecting.
On December 27, Gerard shared the happy news with his Twitter
followers. "Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all
for your messages," he wrote.
Ironically, Shakira was spotted just ten days ago shopping in
Barcelona in a pair of shy high heels.
Back in September, Shakira announced the news, telling her Facebook
fans, "Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first
baby. At this time, we have decided to give priority to this unique
moment in our lives."
Shakira had been embracing her first pregnancy, recently telling fans,
"I could have another nine months like this." But it only is going to
get more exciting for Shakira and Gerard. They will now spend their
days feeding the baby, changing thebaby, and getting to share all of
the amazing moments and milestones their little one will reach.
"Shakira is really looking forward to being a mother," a source
recently told Us Weekly. "They definitely want more than one
together."
So far, there's no word on how big or long he was (or even a name),
but judging by his parents, he's going to be one talented little
fella!

Chris Brown paid $1million for Lagos concert
Popular singer Chris Brown was paid at least $1m (about N156m) to
travel downto Lagos with a 15 man crew last week, NET investigations
have revealed.
The Grammy-winning singer stopped over in South Africa, for concerts
in CapeTown and Jo'burg, before heading down to Lagos for the show.
The Lagos event, built into Brown's on-going world tour, was organised
by Kilimanjaro Events – same company that promoted Rick Ross and Anita
Baker in the past.
Financial details were not made public, but we found that Oando boss
Wale Tinubu was a major financier, as well as Etisalat , which
provided last minute sponsorship.
Brown was to make a brief appearance at the Oando end-of-year gig,
but we're told that did not happen.
It was Brown's second time in Nigeria, the first being for a THISDAY
Music Festival performance a few years ago.
Sources told us the fees 'could have been more' if he was required to
perform with a live band or if he had to do multiple venues or cities.
Although he performed with a DJ and backing track, with two back-up
singersand four dancers, he gave a good account of himself, treating
fans to almost two hours of a well-planned set that left guests asking
for more.
Chris Brown's tour will continue early next year with a scheduled
performancein Cote D'Ivoire.

Gunmen Kill Six During Christmas Church Service In Yobe State
Unknown gunmen attacked a church in northern Nigeria during a midnight
mass on Christmas Eve, killing six people including the pastor, before
setting the building ablaze, residents and police said Tuesday.
"A group of gunmen came into the village at midnight and went straight
to the church," said Usman Mansir, a resident of Peri village near
Potiskum, the economic capital of Yobe state.
"They opened fire on them, killing the pastor and five worshippers.
They then set fire to the church," he added, specifying that a branch
of the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) was targetted.
A senior police official in Yobe confirmed the details, but declined
to be named.
Yobe police chief Sanusi Rufa'i said "this is a security issue" and
refused to comment further.
Boko Haram Islamists have carried out several attacks in Yobe, which
borders the state of Maiduguri, where the insurgent group is based.
The Islamists are blamed for killing hundreds of people in northern
Nigeria since 2009. It was not clear who was behind the latest
violence.
While Yobe's population is overwhelmingly Muslim, the commercial hub
of Potiskum has a significant Christian minority. Peri is just two
kilometres outside the city.

Pope frowns at killings of christians in Nigeria
Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday called for an "end to the bloodshed" in
conflict-wracked Syria in a traditional Christmas message that touched
on several other of the world's conflict zones.
"There is hope in the world … even at the most difficult times and in
the most difficult situations," he said, praying that "peace spring up
for the people of Syria, deeply wounded and divided by a conflict
which does not spare even the defenceless and reaps innocent victims."
Speaking from the balcony of St Peter's Basilica in a message watched
by millions around the world, he called "for an end to the bloodshed,
easier access for the relief of refugees and the displaced, and
dialogue in the pursuit of a political solution to the conflict."
A capacity crowd of 40,000 pilgrims filled the vast St Peter's Square
to hear the 85-year-old pope, resplendent in red vestments, deliver
the message under partly cloudy skies.
His wide-ranging "Urbi et Orbi" (To the City and the World) message
also pointed to hotspots across Africa and urged religious freedom in
China, and as usual called for peace in the Middle East.
He notably lamented "savage acts of terrorism" that frequently target
Christian churches in Nigeria.
In Indonesia, more than 200 Muslims threw rotten eggs at Christians
wanting to hold a Christmas mass outside Jakarta, police said.
Some 100 Christian worshippers intended to hold a mass near the spot
where they hope to build a church, in a project that was barred by
district government and community members in 2009.
Since then, worshippers from the Filadelfia Batak Christian Protestant
Church have held Sunday services under scorching sun outside the
property.
On Tuesday, however, local community members blocked the road near the
land, local police told AFP.

Ngozi Nwosu needs our help
Ngozi Nwosu 's deteriorating health has been in the news for several months.
Although the exact nature of her illness is unknown, merely looking at
her is enough to see that something major has gone wrong.
The actress' sickness has been tied to a lingering kidney problem.
Those close to her say she's been in and out of different hospitals,
and they're now rallying round, hoping to raise funds needed for
treatment. They're trying to make sure her story doesn't end like that
of fellow actors James 'Giringory' Iroha and Enebeli Elebuwa, both of
whom passed away in 2012.
Nwosu, we hear, needs N6m to undergo a medical procedure to restore her health.
With the help of friends, she got N1m after participating in 'Who
Deserves to be a Millionaire', a spin-off of the popular ' Who Wants
to be a Millionaire ' TV game show.
A 'Save Ngozi Nwosu' campaign was immediately kicked soon off after
she 'won' the money, and according to her reps, she has received
another N1m from well-wishers and friends.
Nwosu, a native of Arochukwu in Abia State, has over 50 movie credits
under her belt.
She reportedly started acting as part of the dramatic society in her
school. She landed her first movie role in the 1992 Nollywood classic
'Living in Bondage' where she played 'Ego.' She also played the role
of 'Madam V-Boot' in the 90's soap opera 'Ripples'
Nwosu was previously married to a Beninoise, from Cotonou, Benin
Republic, but they parted ways, reportedly due to irreconcilable
differences.
Please help Ngozi in our own litttle way this season of love.

I want a God-fearing wife- Iyanya
Nigerian singer Iyanya, who has been in the news lately over a
not-too-clear triangular relationship blues/drama, involving him,
actress Yvonne Nelson and actress Tonto Dikeh, has shot down
suggestions of a bad blood among all three characters.
The "Kukere" and "Ur Waist" singer has categorically denied reports
that point to a not-too-pleasant relationship, adding that apart from
the fact that he is "cool" with Yvonne and Tonto, he also respects
both ladies, and that he "appreciate their hard work".
"I'm cool with Yvonne. Apart from the fact that I mentioned her name
in my song, she is a wonderful person," he said in a recent
interview..
"She is one of the nicest, coolest people that Iknow. The same with
Tonto. They are two people I respect a lot. I appreciate their hard
work and they are doing very well in their field.
"Yvonne is my hommie, we are cool people even till now as we speak.
Tonto is my padi, we are cool. The media and people out there are just
having fun".
Talking more about relationships, Iyanya says: "it's hard to find
somebody that would be with you and actually take the pain, stand the
rain. I feel like anyone I've tried to have a relationship with always
says "no, I can't".
On the choice of woman he would ordinarily date, Iyanya says: "I like
classy women. When I say classy, I don't mean you must have money, but
at least know your self-worth andcarry yourself well. I want a God
fearing woman too because at the end of the day women have the deepest
secrets. Women arefragile even when they act like they are bosses so
if you mess up, there is a possibility that a woman will bring you
down".
He also ruled out dating a celebrity, insisting that "the thing about
dating celebs is that it would most likely not last".
"I can date anybody but the thing about dating celebs is that it would
most likely not last. The only way it may last is if they are not
successful. But if they are both successful, when people see them
together, they would jump on it.
That alone has an effect on the relationship because they won't be free".
So are both Tonto Dike and Yvonne Nelson not God fearing enough to be
his wife? Is that what artistes' see of each other?

OMOTOLA FALLS FACE DOWN AT AIRPORT
According to Omotola's tweets, she fell face flat at the arrival hall
of the Lagos International Airport apparently due to non-functional
escalator and she blames the minister of aviation, Stella Oduah and
the Nigerian government for her fall.
The airport which recently underwent a facelift to the admiration of
most Nigerians has however come under sharp criticism from users and
experts alike who argued that the floors shouldn't have been paved in
smooth tiles as it could be slippery and dangerous when wet – and they
just got proved right with Omotola's fall.

Former RCCG pastor berates Adeboye for welcoming politicians in to their annual Holy Ghost congress
A former pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),
Bankole Solomon, has criticized the General Overseer of the church,
Pastor E A Adeboye, for allowing politicians i.e President Jonathan,
into their annual RCCG Holy Ghost congress and turning it into a
political congress.
According to a statement released by Bankole who said he left the
church as pastor in 2010 but still worships there, the church
programme has now turned to a'supermarket where charlatans and
political opportunists come shopping. He questioned why President
Jonathan should be allowed to stand on their 'Once sacred alter' and
speak deceitfully and indirectly campaign for 2015 during a spiritual
gathering
Read Bankole Solomon's full statement after the cut…
"I know this post will attract a sharp condemnation because I worship
in RCCG and I was once a pastor before I resigned voluntarily because
of rights violations in the name of religion. I resigned in December
2010 but I am still worshiping there as an ordinary member. So,
whatever I have here is without prejudice.
"Holy ghost congress of our great church is now a political congress
where all shades of corrupt leaders will mount our altar to fool
Nigerians on what they will do.

like charlatans and political opportunist come shopping turning God to
father Christmas to give them end of the year bonus.
"Jonathan was even there turning our once sacred altar to political
podium talking deceitfully and indirectly campaigning for 2015.
My question is this? On what ground was president Jonathan allowed to
speak to people. Is he a pastor? Because the gathering is purely a
spiritual gathering and event.
"I've been a pastor in Redeemed for the past 10 years and I've not got
any opportunity to sit on dat altar not to talk of holding mic. If
because Jonathan is a President and he is recognized, it means some
are more equal than others.
"Immediately I left camp on Saturday morning, I looked at the camp
very well because I know that would be the last time I will set my
foot to that Eagle Square called Redeemed camp."

QUEEN MISSES CHURCH SERVICE DUE TO COLD
The Queen has missed Sunday church service at her Sandringham estate
as she is "getting over the tail end of a cold", Buckingham Palace
said.
Her Majesty usually visits St Mary Magdalene Church every Sunday while
staying at her home in Norfolk.
She is still expected to attend church on Christmas Day and her
Christmas message was pre-recorded, so it will still go out on
Tuesday.
A spokeswoman said: "We are expecting business as usual next week."
Mary Relph, 78, said that since 1988 she has waited outside the church
whenever the monarch has attended a service there, so as to see the
Queen.
"I don't remember her ever missing it," she said. "I remember her
going around the back once. I am disappointed but I hope she is OK."
The Duke of Edinburgh, 91, walked the few hundred yards from the house
to the churchaccompanied by the Duke of York, the Earl and the
Countess of Wessex and their daughter Lady Louise and Princesses
Beatrice and Eugenie.
The Queen traditionally spends the festive period with her family at
her at her Norfolk estate.
This year the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are planning to spend
Christmas at the Middleton family home.
On Saturday, St James's Palace said the couple will to spend the day
privately in Bucklebury, Berkshire, but they plan to visit Sandringham
at some point over the festive period.
And Prince Harry is currently serving as an Apache pilot in Afghanistan.
The Queen's Christmas Day broadcast to the UK and Commonwealth has
been recorded in 3D for the first time.

Adeboye, others shop for Oritsejafor’s successor
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is currently shopping for a
candidate to occupy the president's position.
The tenure of the incumbent, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, will expire in
February 2013.
Oritsejafor had in 2010 indicated his intention to relinquish his
position as PFN president owing to increased activities and
commitments, as the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria, but
he was asked to complete his tenure to promote unity within the body.
With his tenure gradually coming to an end, and his desire not to seek
re-election, the coast is clear for interested candidates to express
their interest and present their unique selling points to get what is
considered as the most influential position in the Pentecostal
movement.
A document made available to Saturday PUNCH by a PFN source, said that
Pastor Wale Adefarasin, Pastor Wale Oke, Rev Felix Omobude were among
the frontrunners for the position.
Election into the soon-to-be-vacant seat is scheduled to hold in February.
Although Pastor Taiwo Odukoya was said to be a preferred choice for
the position, he was said to have declined interest in the job, thus
making way for Adefarasin and the others.
The document said, "However, now that the race for the PFN presidency
is gathering steam, candidates have continued to signify their
interest in the office.
"The candidate who has always been on the move wooing people to
support his candidature is Oke.
He's said to enjoy a close relationship with Oritsejafor, being the
National Vice-President (South-West).
"Meanwhile, Wale's choice was applauded by all because of his
unassuming, suave and gentlemanly disposition to issues. And indeed,
Adefarasin's tenure as Lagos PFN chairman did restore unity, direction
and integrity to the body. That feat might have been a factor that
earned him the office of the National Secretary when Oritsejafor
succeeded Okonkwo.
"Pastor Paul Adefarasin is also said to have been working assiduously
behind the scene to succeed Oritsejafor but he noticed that
thenational leaders would prefer him to wait for his turn.
"A group of influential pastors in the Pentecostal fold is backing
(Wale) Adefarasin for the race. With this development, Paul's ambition
may have to wait or never materialise if Wale should win.
"As at the last count, nobody can really say which direction the
national leaders are going because they determine who the next PFN
president would be. But it is obvious thatthe major contenders are:
Oke, Adefarasin and Felix Omobude."

commitments, as the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria, but
he was asked to complete his tenure to promote unity within the body.

Nigeria gunmen seize French man in Katsina
A group of 30 gunmen have used dynamite to force their way into a
well-guarded compound in northern Nigeria and seize a French engineer,
police say.
Two Nigerian guards were killed in the attack, said Katsina state
police commissioner Abdullahi Magaji.
As the unknown group fled, they attacked a police station, he said.
Katsina has been relatively unscathed by months of violence in
northern Nigeria carried out by Boko Haram Islamist militants.
Mr Magaji told the AFP news agency he did not think the militant
group, which is based in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, was
behind the kidnapping.
The kidnapped man worked for a French company on a wind power project
in the town of Rimi, about 25km (15 miles) from Katsina city, reports
the AFP news agency.
Two security guards were shot dead in the attack, while a police
officer was wounded, the police commissioner said.
Earlier this year, a kidnapped German engineer was killed by his
captors during a failed rescue bid. The BBC's Wills Ross in Nigeria
says it is thought the group holding him had links to al-Qaeda's North
African wing, which is active in neighbouring Niger, and Mali.
A British and an Italian hostage were also killed this year during a
similar attempt to free them by British and Nigerian forces.
There has been a spate of recent kidnappings in southern Nigeria,

Toddler's eggs hatch snakes
A Queensland mother helped her toddler son collect the eggs of the
world's second-most deadly snake so he could watch them hatch,
awildlife carer says.
But when the deadly babies finally emerged — in the warm confines of
the young boy's wardrobe — the mother decided that perhaps it wasn't
such a hot idea after all.
The snakes, which hatched inside a sealed takeaway container, were
surrendered on Monday to wildlife carers in Townsville.
North Queensland Wildlife Care reptile co-ordinator Trish Prendergast,
who releasedthe seven eastern browns, has a simple message for
Australians.
''Leave nature alone. This little boy was extremely lucky he didn't
get bitten,'' she said.
Prendergast said it was very lucky that the mother realised the snakes
had hatched before her curious little boy did, and before the snakes
grew big enough to pop the lid off the container.
''The little boy had found some eggs in the yard about three or four
weeks ago, and asked his mum if he could keep them,'' she said.
''So she put them in a container, and taped it up and put it in his wardrobe.''
Prendergast said it was illegal to interfere with protected wildlife,
but the family would not face any charges.
''I don't know if she realised they were snake eggs or not,'' she said.
''She thought maybe it was a nice thing to do,to get the eggs and
watch them hatch.''
Prendergast said eastern browns were ''bornkillers'' and even as
babies had enough venom to kill people, although their fangs were very
small when they were young.
''Still he's a very lucky boy,'' she said.
''If he'd opened the container he might not be here today.''

11 YEAR OLD KID CAUGHT WITH A GUN IN SCHOOL
With the Newtown massacre still fresh in the memory of most Americans,
and while President Obama is trying to figure out how to review the
gun laws of the country, an 11-year-old boy has been caught with an
ammunition in school, south of Salt Lake City.
The boy, who said he brought the gun to school to protect himself from
a Newtown-style attack, then brandished the pistol at three classmates
during recess. He has been detained on assault and weapons charges,
aschool spokesman said. A sixth-grader, the boy took the unloaded
.22-caliber handgun to his school south of Salt Lake City in his
backpack on Monday, a spokesman for the Granite School District said.
Also, some ammunition was found in the backpack, but it did not appear
to go with the gun, the spokesman, Ben Horsley said. No one was
injured in the incident, which occurred as jittery parents, teachers
and students around the country faced their first day back at school
since 20 children and six adult staffers at the Sandy Hook Elementary
School in Newtown, Connecticut, were shot to death by a lone gunman
last Friday.
The 11-year-old student at Utah's West Kearns Elementary, who was not
publicly identified, has insisted he brought the gun to school to
"protect himself and his friends from a Connecticut-style incident,"
Horsley said. However, the boy is accused of waving the gun at three
classmates on a soccer field during recess. Later on Monday, one of
those students and a second classmate alerted their teacher, who
"immediately took the student into custody and took him down to the
principal's office" Horsley said.

VODKA SAVES THE LIVES OF TWO ELEPHANTS
Alcohol can lower an elephant's core body temperature.
Two elephants have been saved from the deadly Siberian cold by
drinking vodka, Russian officials say.
They say the animals had to be taken out into the bitter cold after
the wooden trailer they were travelling in caught fire in the
Novosibirsk region.
The elephants, aged 45 and 48, suffered frostbite to the tips of their
ears amid temperatures of -40C (-40F)
But they were warmed up by two cases of vodka mixed with warm water,
one official was quoted as saying.
"They started roaring like if they were in the jungle! Perhaps, they
were happy," the official told Russia's Ria Novosti news agency.
The animals continued their recovery in a heated garage of a local
college where they were brought by a truck under police escort.
The elephants belong to a Polish circus, which has been touring the
region, reports say.
Like with humans, alcohol can make animalsfeel warmer but it actually
lowers their core body temperature, scientists say.
But Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper quoted Novosibirsk zoo director
Rostislav Shilo as saying that the elephants were not harmed or
intoxicated by the vodka, and that without it they would have died of
hypothermia or pneumonia.

BBC TAKE TELETUBBIES TO BURMA
The Teletubbies, 24-hour news and DoctorWho are being introduced to
Burma as theBBC launches three pay-TV channels there next January.
Viewers will be able to watch CBeebies , BBC Entertainment and BBC World News .
All three channels along with BBC World Service in Asia in English
will launch on Forever Group's pay TV platform.
The formerly isolated nation has begun to improve relations with the
West by releasingpolitical prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi and holding
by-elections.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron went to Burma in April, becoming the
first Western leader to visit there since the success of pro-democracy
leader Ms Suu Kyi in parliamentary by-elections.
He is also the first UK prime minister to visit Burma since it gained
independence in 1948.
He said economic sanctions against the nation should be suspended in
recognition of the changes taking place there.
Last year, Ms Suu Kyi revealed DJ Dave Lee Travis's show on the World
Service had beena lifeline when she was under house arrest.
CBeebies is aimed at pre-school children, offering interactive and
educational shows, while BBC World News is the BBC's commercially
funded international 24-hour news and information channel.
BBC Entertainment features drama, light entertainment and comedy. It
also exclusively broadcasts celebrity chat show The Graham Norton
Show, screening it two weeks after it has been aired in the UK.
The BBC has provided news and informationto Burma, via radio on the
BBC World Service,by broadcasting on BBC Burmese since 1940.
Peter Horrocks , director of global news, said: "For many years, the
BBC has delivered accurate, impartial international radio services to
the Burmese people, serving as a vital lifeline service to Aung San
Suu Kyi and those across the country.
"I'm so pleased that the BBC is now able to take the next step forward
with the country to offer that same impartial news via television as
well. It is a great sign of progress for Burma and I'm honoured for
the BBC to play a role in opening the country up to the world."
The launch of the TV channels plus the World Service programming will
potentially reach about 250,000 homes in Burma, the corporation said.

NIGERIAN STUDENT CUTS AND SWALLOWS HIS MANHOOD IN GHANA
A Nigerian student enrolled in one of the numerous tertiary
institutions in Ghana has cut and swallowed his penis. The incident
occurred last Friday. Although no one is sure what prompted the
25-year-old student (name withheld) to chop-off and practically ingest
his manhood, reports gathered say he is currently on admission at one
of Ghana's teaching hospitals.
In Ghana, the average tuition fee per academic session for a
non-Ghanaian studenthovers around $6,000 (over N900,000). If his
parents could pay his fees for studying in Ghana, it was doubtful
hunger was not the boy's reason.
So, was he jilted by a lover? Was it some senseless act of bravado or
as a result of failure or poor grades? The student, who hails from
Zaria, Kaduna State told Mr. AndrewIdi and other officials of the
Nigerian High Commission Accra who visited him in hospital that he
believed he was under a spell, when he carried out the bizarre act.
Mr. Idi is Consular Officer at Nigeria's mission in the Ghanaian
capital. Reliable sources indicated more than 20,000 Nigerians are
students in various tertiary institutions across the formerGold Coast.
And, the number is rising by the semester, as countless Nigerian
parents are confident a child studying in a Ghanaian university is
sureto complete her/his programme on schedule, whereas, back home some
students had spent seven years on a four-year programme, without
graduating because of suspension ofacademic activities, consequent
upon incidences of labour strikes, closure of schools over terrorists'
attacks and other incidents.

BIZZARE: 26 WOMEN WAKE UP WITHOUT PANTIES!
A TRADITIONAL healer from Gokwe South has called an emergency meeting
with his subjects following a bizarre incident in which 26 females
including schoolgirls in his area woke up and found themselves without
panties.
The missing panties were later discovered this week in Njelele Village
under Chief Njelele, spreading panic among the villagers.
Chief Njelele confirmed the incident and said he had since reported
the matter to Gokwe Police Station.
The traditional leader said he had also called for an emergency
meeting to chart the way forward with his subjects.
"What happened in my area is so scary and everyone is in a state of
shock and panic. I have called for a meeting with my subjects in the
two villages where the incident occurred and I am scheduled to meet
them so that we chart the way forward," he said.
Chief Njelele said on Wednesday morning last week, the majority of
women under village heads Pauro and Charisekera woke up and found
themselves without panties.
The traditional leader said the owners from the two villages had
positively identified theirpanties.
"After we reported the matter to the police at Gokwe Police Station,
17 women from Pauro and Charisekera who mysteriously lost their
panties positively identified their garments inthe presence of the
police. The remaining panties have not been identified maybe because
of their state. Police, however, recorded 26 complaints from the
village which tallies with the number of panties which were found in
the bush," he said.
Chief Njelele said he would soon engage the police to allow him to
conduct a witch- hunting ceremony following the incident.
"While we have reported the matter to the police so that they conduct
their investigations, I will also ask the police to allow us to invite
the tsikamutandas so that we can conduct a witch-hunting ceremony," he
said.
"Many subjects in my area are not against thetsikamutandas'
operations. What they want these traditional healers to do is to
identify the trouble causer in the community and then allow the chief
to convict and fine these trouble causers instead of themselves going
around demanding cattle from the people they would have accused of
practising witchcraft."

Nollywood Actors/Actresses Are Hypocrites – Stella Damasus on Enebeli Elebuwa's case
What appears to be an insider account of what happens in Nigeria's
movie industry popularly referred to as Nollywood, was given by Stella
Damasus recently in an interview.
The sultry actress was speaking in reaction to the demise of Enebeli
Elebuwa who died on the 5th of December in India after battling with
stroke. Damascus accused her colleagues in the industry of playing to
the gallery when the veteran actor was ill and expressed her anger
that rather than show genuine concern, they were busy seeking means of
enriching their own pockets.
"I'm very angry because the people in my industry are hypocrites. she
started. "That man was ill for a long time in lagos and they turned it
into a fanfare.
People would go andvisit him and take pictures with him, post it on
twitter, on Facebook, on their blogs; they used it to make people feel
that they are philanthropists but nobody lifted a finger to take care
of him or help his family.
"They are more interested in politics; who would be president, how
they can visit dignitaries, who would dash them money. Nobody cares
about the elderly people in theindustry. We know how to celebrate
people when they die, but when they are alive, whatdo we do for them,
especially the sick ones?
"The Delta state government eventually sponsored him to India. I'm
just very pained," she said sadly.

they can visit dignitaries, who would dash them money. Nobody cares
about the elderly people in theindustry. We know how to celebrate
people when they die, but when they are alive, whatdo we do for them,
especially the sick ones?
"The Delta state government eventually sponsored him to India. I'm
just very pained," she said sadly.
IMPEDIMENTS ON THE WAY FOR JONATHAN'S PRIVATE JET PURCHASE
In addition to the two new luxury helicopters ordered by President
Goodluck Jonathan from the Anglo-Italian AgustaWestland at a cost of
$40 million, as SaharaReporters reported earlier today, we have
learned that the government made a deposit of another $9 million for a
Hawker 4000 jet.
In 2012 budget an additional $12 million was budgeted to complete the
purchase of the jet.
But that money is now tied up in court, as our investigation has
revealed that the manufacturer, Hawker Beechraft, entered into
bankruptcy proceedings in the US District Court of Southern New York
last May.
Curiously, the purchase notice was initiated by one Group Captain Ma
Yakubu, who gave away the $9 million using the address of "Nigerian
Presidential Wing, Nnamdi AzikiweInternational Airport, Presidential
Air Fleet Abuja, Nigeria." His phone number and email addresses were
listed as follows:
+234 8052088048 and Maminuyana@Yahoo.Com.
Our sources say this is highly unusual, as thepurchase order would
normally have emanated not from an airport, but from within the
presidency, the Ministry of Aviation or the Nigerian Air Force.
Yesterday's crash of a Nigeria navy executiveAgusta 109E helicopter,
which killed Kaduna State Governor Patrick Yakowa, former NSA Andrew
Owoye Azazi and four others, while doing private errands for
presidential aide Oronto Douglas, demonstrates how public property is
routinely converted to private benefit especially in a corrupt
administration.
The presidency currently has at its disposal about 11 jets, many of
them running errands on a daily basis for privileged officials and
their relatives. When those are not enough, they call for similar
equipment that belong to the armed forces, the Nigeria Police, the
Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, and similar offices.
"Yesterday, the naval helicopter was abused throughout the day, like a
free taxi cab, until it simply fell out of the sky," an analyst told
SaharaReporters.
The two helicopters on order by Mr. Jonathan will cost Nigeria $40
million, but it is unclear how many similar equipment may be on order
around the world, or have already been bought or delivered, because
government officials often account to nobody. The tracking of most
contracts is non-existent after they have been awarded.
SaharaReporters has written to Group Captain Yakubu in an effort to
obtain furtherinformation about the aborted purchase of the Hawker
4000 jet.
The US District court has approved Hawker Beechcraft's plan to emerge
from bankruptcy as a slimmer corporation, also last week the court
authorized the company to sell off its entire inventory of Hawker 4000
jets at $20 million each.

A PRAYER FOR NIGERIA- Olubayo Paul
Dear Heavenly Father,
We, your children, come before you this day committing ourselves unto
thy care; and ask that you guide, bless, protect and forgive us our
sins.
Father, we remember this day, the souls of those who died yesterday in
the helicopter crash and pray that you grant their families, and the
nation, the fortitude to bear such irreparable loss.
We pray Lord, that through this, the hearts of our leaders would be
softened to see and understand the vanity in the love of life and its
perishable embodiments.
Father, we beseech you to open their eyes and minister to their
conscience your eternal word of love.
Lord, this day, let your fear reside in their hearts and give them the
strength and grace needed to love the masses.
Let this be that which would unite us as a nation and draw us closer
to your side.
Finally Father, we ask that you empower us with the strength to fight
and overcome those "hearts of stone" who have nothing but misery for
us- for we are your anointed.
Amen.

CONFIRMED: KADUNA STATE GOVERNOR DIES IN HELICOPTER CRASH
The governor of Nigeria 's Kaduna state and a former national security
adviser were among six killed when a helicopter crashed in the
southerly oil-producing Bayelsa state on Saturday, the ruling
political party and emergency services said.
The helicopter wobbled in the sky before nose-diving into a forest in
Ogbia Creek at around 3:30 p.m. (0930 ET), a local resident who
witnessed the crash told Reuters.
"By the time we got to the scene it was in flames," said Hitler
Adunion , a local community leader.
"We tried to put them out but it was difficult. We saw the roasted
bodies of those inside," he added.
The Nigerian Navy confirmed that its Agusta helicopter had crashed
while carrying VIPs to Port Harcourt.
The National Emergency Management Agency said it had recovered the
dead bodies of six passengers on board.
Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa won a tight vote last year to become Kaduna
state's first Christian governor under the ruling People's Democratic
Party (PDP) ticket. He replaced Namadi Sambo, who is now vice
president.
"Our great party is shocked beyond imagination and no words can
adequately give expression to the depth of our grief," a PDP statement
said, confirming the governor's death.
The 36 state governors are among the most powerful politicians in
Nigeria , Africa's biggest oil producer, often controlling budgets
bigger than those of many African countries.
The PDP statement also said that General Owoye Azazi, a former
national security adviser, had been killed in the crash along with
"other prominent Nigerians".
Azazi had been a close adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan but was
sacked this year as Nigeria struggled to cope with an Islamist
insurgency in the north.
Several high-profile politicians had traveled toBayelsa, Jonathan's
home state, this weekend for a funeral, local residents said.
Jonathan himself was not in Bayelsa at the time of the crash, the
presidency said.
Like many African countries, Nigeria has a poor air safety record.
Nigeria's deputy police chief and three other officers were killed
when a helicopter crashed in the central city of Jos in March.
In June, a passenger plane crashed into a densely populated part of
Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub, killing 163 people.

SPECIAL FEATURE- Macaulay Culkin: The "Home Alone" kid
Macaulay Carson Culkin (born August 26, 1980) is an American actor. He
became widely known for his portrayal of Kevin McCallister in Home
Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
He is also known for his roles in Richie Rich, Uncle Buck, My Girl,
The Pagemaster, and Party Monster, as well as Michael Jackson's music
video Black or White. At the height of his fame, he was regarded as
the most successful child actor since Shirley Temple.
Culkin was ranked No. 2 in VH1 and E!'s respective lists, the "100
Greatest Kid-Stars" and "50 Greatest Child Stars".
Culkin - famous at ten, a millionaire at 12 and a has-been at 15 -
lives not far away in a magnificent £2million loft apartment and can
be found at Le Poisson Rouge once a month plying what passes for his
trade these days.
On this night, there are absences to visit a back room, and when
Culkin and his coterie of friends return, they smell of marijuana.
People who know him say he's worlds away from the character of Kevin
McCallister, the joyful young boy in Home Alone who charmed millions
of movie-goers.
Today, skinny to the point of skeletal, Culkin looks far older than
his 31 years. His alabasterskin appears papery and his green eyes
framed with blonde lashes add to the air of vulnerability which clings
to him.
A neighbour at the Shakespeare Book Shop near his home said that
Culkin now looks so bad she could easily confuse him with a tramp. He
wears 'vintage' clothing from secondhand stores, in particular a brown
leather women's jacket, and goes everywhere with his small group of
friends.
Indeed, it transpires that Culkin, a multi-millionaire thanks to his
career as a child actor, has fallen into some unwholesome company.
One New York source said: 'He mixes with a crowd of rich kids who
split their time between Miami and New York. They are a fastcrowd.'
One fairly new development is a friendship with a rocker Adam Green,
from a punk band called the Moldy Peaches. They are so close that
Culkin joined the group on a two-month tour of Europe recently, and
took to the stageto duet with Green on some of their dates.
Green is a fan of the drug ketamine (originally designed to sedate
horses). Disturbingly, he persuaded Culkin to star in a
'ketamine-inspired' film, The Wrong Ferrari, last year. Shot on an
iPhone, it is both puerile and incomprehensible.

Season 2: Pastorpreneurs and their private jets
President of the Sword of the Spirit International Ministries and the
national vice president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria,
Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has condemned the attack on clerics who own
private jets in the country, just as he stated that such stand was
uncalled for and that more jets from clergy were coming.
The bishop stated this in a release made available to Tribune Church.
"WE are being criticised for buying jets! But they forgot that before
WE started to buy jets, WE were winning souls in thousands
andmillions, turning men and women from darkness to light. WE were
transforming lives, giving them beauty for ashes. WE were empowering
people, equipping them with the revelation knowledge of God's word
that lifts men out of the pit of poverty, to the pinnacle of grace and
dominion! WE were empowering the poor, not only giving them fish to
eat but also teaching them how to fish. WE were building schools that
were giving quality education to the people, empowering them mentally
to become prominent (these include those throwing stones at us now!).
WE were building universities. WE were transforming our society, and
changing our nation, one soul at a time," he said.
Oke wondered what Nigeria would have been if not for the efforts of
Pentecostalism in the country. "They have seen a few jets. They ain't
seen nothing yet!
More of us will yet buy and maintain our jets, because, by the mercy
of God, WE have been given the wisdom to do so.And WE are willing to
teach the nation, if they will listen to us, rather than throw stones.
"However, our critics should know that the jets mean nothing to us!
They are just tools to do the work that God has given us in a more
effective manner. Or how can an Adeboye who has churches in over 160
nations of the earth cope with his pastoral and apostolic
responsibilities without some private jets! He does not need just one.
He needs some!
"How can an Ayo Oritsejafor, who has to minister around the globe,
pastor a very large congregation in Warri, and still attend to
critical national matters in Abuja, if he has to keep waiting at the
airports, in a system where nothing is predictable? Our critics
should, please, note that more of us are following the trail of the
like of Adeboye, whose wealthand affluence has never stopped him from
being a true shepherd of the poor and downtrodden, in true humility,
simplicity and godly sincerity, a shining example of true
Pentecostalism and Charismatic wisdom," he said.
RESPONSE:
With due respect sir, I'll like to comment on this arrogant statement
of yours perhaps you may be reading:
This is nothing but an arrogant statement.
So it has become you guys (MoGs) who win the soul and no longer the
Holy Spirit? It has become you and your colleague who empowers the
poor and yet many Nigerians are still living under $2/day? It is no
longer God who workS through you as a vessel?
Your statements are filled with self achievement and doesn't answer to
scripture sir. Even the universities built, how many of the members in
their economic state can afford the tuition aside the rich?
You boast of transforming lives and yet, life itself is not in the
abundance of what man owns but quality.
Jesus said, "I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the
work which you gave me to do", John 17:4 and Apostle Paul said same
thing in 2 Timothy4:7. When Jesus and the Apostle made such a bold
statement, Jesus had not even died and yet he said, "he had finished
the work". What then is the finished work when he had not died?
He had REPRODUCED himself in a generation of men that will work
according the samework he had done. Today's MoG are busy expanding
their empire, not the kingdom and REPRODUCING collection centers
called "church branches" whereby they can accumulate more money to
acquire their earthly possessions. How many of Adeboye's Pastor have
their private jets How many of Ayo Oritsejafor's branch pastor have
the their own jets or are they not all called to preach the gospel?
Again, nobody is envious of your private jet since we now know you are
also beginning to covet after your own private jet hence you must come
out to defend MoGs with private jets. The real critics is the means by
which the private jets are acquired. When MoGs use all sort of
gimmicks to milk the sheep in order to acquire wealth is the real
issue sir.
Or does the catholic pope- who is busier than all these pastors put
together- own a private jet?

OPINION: THE LOGIC BEHIND TELEVISION IN VEHICLES
This very short piece is more or less a question with the aim of
understanding the inclusion of mobile televisions (and other similar
devices) in vehicles.
If the use of mobile phones while driving is frowned at by the police,
why then do car manufacutrers include televisions in vehicles as they
are accidents catalysts?
As harmful as this harmful trend is, satellite television
manufacturers have joined the bandwagon by creating portable devices,
specially designed for vehicles, that can be used to watch various
stations on their network.
Now I ask, "Is this the right thing to do?"

N4bn fraud: EFCC to declare Ex-Gov Abubakar Audu wanted
Following the escape from arrest, of the former Kogi State governor,
Abubakar Audu, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, on December 11, 2012, the Commission has
concluded plans to declare him wanted.
The former governor, alleged to have fraudulently enriched himself to
the tune of over N4 billion while he was governor of Kogi State
between 1999 and 2003, fled when operatives of the Commission
stormedhis 32 Suleiman Barau street, Aso Villa, Asokoro Abuja
residence in the early hours of today.
The latest effort to arrest the ex- governor followed a Supreme Court
ruling of November 23, 2012, which dismissed the ex-governor's appeal
to continue to protracthis corruption trial by EFCC. The Supreme Court
ruling therefore clears the way for his fresh arraignment.
It would be recalled that Audu was arrested in Jos in 2006 after a six
months manhunt by operatives of the Commission, before his earlier
arraignment at the Kogi state High Court on December 1, 2006, on an 80
criminal count charge of conspiracy, fraud, and criminal breach of
trust and embezzlement of public fund.
The EFCC had, while the case lasted at the high court, cause issuance
of nolle prosequi by the former Attorney- General of Kogi state, Dr.
John Alewo Agbonika and the Attorney General of the Federation, Chief
Bayo Ojo on February 8, 2007 for the case tobe discontinued at the
Kogi State High Court as the Commission claimed to have lost faith in
the handling of the matter by the State High Court.
"In my capacity as the AG of Kogi state in collaboration with the AG
of the Federation and by virtue of the power vested in me by Section
211 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and
Section253 of the CPC and all the powers enabling me in that behalf, I
Dr. John Alewo Agbonika hereby inform this honourable court that I no
longer intend to continue the prosecution of this case in
collaboration with the AG of the Federation to whom I hadgiven a fiat
to prosecute this case", Agbonika, the former Kogi State Attorney
General said.
But rather than discontinue the matter in the spirit of the nolle
prosequi, the trial judge, Justice Medupin, went ahead as he further
referred two questions to the Court of Appeal for determination.
In a judgement delivered by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, the Supreme
Court held that the Court of Appeal was wrong to consider the
questions referred to it for determination after being aware from the
records of Appeal that a nolle prosequi had been filed.
"This is so because there is/was nothing before the trial court, so
there would be nothing for the Court of Appeal to send back.It
amounted to an academic exercise for the Court of Appeal to waste
judicial time considering questions from a case that is nolonger in
existence. There was no longer liveissue to be considered by the Court
of appeal in view of nolle prosequi filed in the trial court", the
Supreme Court ruled.
Part of the setback suffered by the Commission in the prosecution of
the case was the filing of several applications by the defendant for
stay of proceedings at the high court pending the final determination
of the appeal. Audu had on December 12, 2011, through his lead
counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, filed the stay of proceedings motion
supported by 11-paragraph Affidavit. This was 26 clear days after the
Supreme Court of Nigeria on November 16, 2011, struck out a similar
application he filed on January 24, 2011.

N50MILLION PAID INTO IBORI'S ACCOUNT IS LEGAL- EFCC
Delta State Government has said the N50 million paid into the account
of the state former governor, Chief James Ibori, was his pension
entitlements and other benefits, which are very legal.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chike Ogeah, who stated
this Wednesday in a statement, said it was imperative to explain the
additional affidavit filed by the Economic and Finacial Crime
Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court in Abuja, opposing the
state's application to collect $15 million Ibori bribe money.
The EFCC, in its additional affidavit, alleged that if the $15 million
was paid tothe Delta State Government, it would be paid back to Ibori.
It further alleged that the money was paid to the former governor for
the furnishing of his house and for his pension.
But, Ogeah stated that "no allegation of illegally was made against
Delta State Government by the EFCC, the truth is that like every other
elected governor who had served the state, Chief Ibori was paid his
pension entitlement and other benefits alongside his deputy under
existing state law, that is, the Delta State Governor and Deputy
Governor Pension Rights and Other Benefits Law 2005 and the Delta
State Governor and Deputy Governor Pension Rights and Other Benefits
(Amendment) Law 2009.
"As can be seen, there is no iota of illegality in the payments made
to Chief Ibori as it was made under approved budget and paid to the
beneficiaries through their designated bank accounts in Nigeria after
following due process.
"This clarification is necessary so that the media do not input
illegality or improper motive for an act done pursuant to a statute.
"It should also be noted that Chief Ibori'stenure as governor of Delta
State has notbeen annulled by any court of law and he is legitimately
entitled to the pension and other benefits received under the law,"
adding that this serves "to clarify the misrepresentation of facts
by some sections of the media."

LESBIANISM IN HIGH PLACES
Anglican run St James Girls High School has been hit by a lesbian
"sex" scandal which has resulted in the expulsion of pupils, one of
them for offering a teacher sex in exchange for lenience after being
caught in the act.
The scandal reportedly started in June when two Form Six pupils were
caught by fellow pupils in the middle of the night having a nicetime
under the sheets, BMetro reported. A report was made to school
authorities.
After a probe, the two girls (names withheld) were suspended for two
weeks. According toa source, the pupils showed remorse during the
disciplinary hearing and promised to give up the lesbian antics. On
returning to school after serving the sentence, the two are said to
have kept a distance from each other.
"Everyone was convinced that they had indeed stopped their behaviour.
They even stopped talking to each other and we all thought that the
relationship was over. Little did we know that we were being fooled,"
said a source.
Sometime in October, while the rest of the pupils were preparing for
examinations, the two were making frantic efforts to resurrect their
relationship.
"At a time when we thought they were finished for good, they started.
They were spotted a number of times caressing each other in public and
during the nights one of them would sneak into the other's
dormitory.Other pupils tipped the matron and a trap was laid leading
to the two being caught having "lesbian sex," said the source.
After they were caught, one of the girls is reported to have offered a
senior male teacher sex in exchange for mercy. She had, however, gone
overboard as the teacher did not take kindly to that and took up. the
matter with the headmaster.
The gravity of the matter resulted in the headmaster Albert Ncube
reporting the girls' behaviour to the. Matabeleland North Provincial
Education Director's office who recommended that they be expelled.
"They were, however, not barred from writing examinations as they
wrote all the papers coming from home," said the source.
Acting Matabeleleland North Provincial Education Director Mr Mathias
Luphahla confirmed the incident saying: "We handled such a case and
the girls were expelled but I should hasten to emphasise that they
were allowed to write examinations," he said.

LIVE: MESSI BREAKS MULLER'S RECORD IN THE FIRST HALF OF SUNDAY'S GAME
Lionel Messi has set a new record of 86 goals in a calendar year after
surpassing Gerd Muller's record of 85 strikes in Seville on Sunday
night.
The Barcelona man achieved the feat with twofine strikes in the first
half an hour against Betis, meaning he has notched up the tally of 86
in 66 games.
It took Muller just 60 appearances to set the previous record in 1972.
The Argentine started 2012 with two goals against Osasuna in the Copa
del Rey, and regularly notched up doubles and trebles throughout the
year for both club and country.
He scored exactly two goals on 20 occasions, and at least three
strikes nine times, including a five-goal haul against Bayer
Leverkusen in the Champions League.
Muller hit 42 Bundesliga goals in 34 outings tofire Bayern Munich to
the German title in 1971-72 and eventually 1972-73, and he also played
an integral role in West Germany's European Championship victory. He
scored five goals in the four finals games it took die Mannschaft to
lift the trophy under the old format.
Muller was also boosted by Bayern's run of 21matches in 37 days during
the traditional pre-season period. Due to the summer Olympics that
year, the German domestic football season was pushed back until
September 16, so a new competition - the DFB-Ligapokal (League Cup) -
was hastily introduced to ward off rustiness.
Muller scored 12 goals in five games in that maiden campaign, while he
scored 10 goals against Galatasaray and Omonia Nicosia in theopening
stages of the old European Cup.

VICTIM BITES ROBBER TO SUBMISSION
Like the proverbial hunter that became hunted, an armed robbery
suspect has told how he narrowly escaped death in the handsof his
victim. A four-armed robbery gang had invaded the premises of a
powerful politician in Lagos. The incident got to the attention of the
state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko who swiftly ordered the
officer in charge of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Abba Keyari
to fish out the hoodlums.
The efforts of the police paid off as they arrested the suspects. One
of the suspects in an interview with Crimewatch denied using gun to
attack the politician.
He said: "Really, we attacked the man but the man was too strong to
defeat. We used pliersto break the kitchen window protector and gained
entry. We started packing his laptop, phones and other things." "As we
were packing his things, the man woke up and grabbed me. He was too
strong for me to handle, so he started beating me. He did not stop at
hitting me, he also bit me.
His teeth were shaper than knife. He was biting me like a wounded
lion. In fact, that man is a lion. He is too powerful. As he was
hitting and biting me, I was shouting for helpbut my colleagues
abandoned me. "How I managed to escape, I cannot tell. I was half
dead.
When I left the house. If the man had beaten me more than he did, I
would have died. He istoo strong so, that is why I am saying no to the
claim by the police that we were armed, ifwe had a gun, we would have
fired him, rather we escaped from him." Showing some wounds on his
body, he said, "look at my body, all the injuries were from the man.
He even injured me on my penis. He beat me black and blue."
On who owned the locally made pistol the police claimed they recovered
from him, he said: "I am not saying that I don't have a gun at home, I
have but I don't use it for robbery. I only use it to protect myself
at home. For that robbery, I swear to my ancestors, we didnot use gun
that day." His suspected accomplice, Sheidu Busari, who the police
named as the leader of the gang, corroborated Jimo's story, "we did
not use gun that day but my friend Jimo has a gun, but we did not go
with it that fateful day. We only used big pliers to break through the
window.
We gained entry but when the man grabbed Jimo, and he was shouting
like a baby, I thought the man has stabbed him or had charmed him so I
took to my heels. I did not know it was ordinary biting that was
scaring Jimo. Jimo (Jamio) used to be strong that waswhy I was
confused and scared when he wascrying like a baby."
Busari who was just released from the prisons for the same armed
robbery, said "I was only sent to prison for buying a stolen phone but
my elder brother later bought my freedom with N200,000." On why he
went back to crime he said, "don't you know that Christmas is fast
approaching. I need money for Christmas so, when we got information
that the man we attacked was wealthy, I had no alternative than to go
for the robbery."
He regretted that the operation was not all that successful. "I swear,
the robbery was a bad one. We did not make money, yet, it brought
another trouble to me. See now, I will be spending the Christmas in
the prison." Lagos State police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said one
locally-made pistol with six rounds of live cartridges, one HP Laptop,
and one Nokia 200 were recovered from the suspects.

my elder brother later bought my freedom with N200,000." On why he
went back to crime he said, "don't you know that Christmas is fast
approaching.

PDP WRITES OFF GOVERNOR SUNTAI
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is considering its options in
replacing Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State as it is becoming
clearer he is unlikely to recover from his head injuries.
The governor, who was in a plane crash at the Yola International
Airport in Adamawa two months ago, is currently inhospital in Hanover,
Germany.
Several sources have told SaharaReporters that the party is working
with the Presidency to find a suitable replacement for the governor.
According to one source, several party leaders including PDP chairman
BamangaTukur, Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and Senate
President
David Mark, have all visited the ailing governor and concluded that he
could never recover from brain injury to run the state.
A separate delegation led by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, failed to set eyes on the governor
during an attempted visit two weeks ago as he had been moved to the
intensive care unit and on life support. Heand his four companions
could only leavea get well message with Mr. Suntai's doctors.
SaharaReporters has also learned that last week, Mr. Suntai's personal
doctor visited Nigeria and confided in family members and friends that
the governor is unlikely to recover from his head injuries anytime
soon.
But as in the case of the late Nigerian president, Umaru Yar'Adua,
members of Mr. Suntai's family have pressurized state officials to
engage in propaganda that the brain-damaged governor is "making
dramatic" improvements and speaking by telephone to some people in the
state. Party officials have contracted that, however, telling
SaharaReporters that Suntai does not know the difference between day
and night.
Last Saturday, the Taraba State Commissioner for Information,
EmmanuelBello, told SaharaReporters the governor wasn't brain-damaged,
but when SaharaReporters asked him to provide evidence, he only said
the governor had spoken to a Senator.
Our source said none of the state officialshave visited the governor
in Germany since he was airlifted from Nigeria. Other members of his
government who were hurt in the air crash have left hospitals in
Germany and returned to Nigeria.
On October 4, three weeks before Governor Suntai's plane crash, the
TarabaHouse of Assembly impeached Deputy Governor Sani Abubakar
Danladi following allegations of "gross misconduct" leveled against
him by a judicial panel.
On October 5, Alhaji Garba Umar was sworn in as Deputy Governor after
he signed an undertaking with the governornot to run as a candidate
for governor in any elections.
On November 14, the House of Assembly, invoking Section 190(2) of the
Nigerian Constitution, empowered Umar to act as governor.
With the party performing poorly in manystates and at the centre, the
PDP is anxious not to lose Taraba to other political parties.
A source at the presidency said the party has been mandated to make
formal announcements after the holiday seasonsregarding the status of
Mr. Suntai.
Meanwhile the acting governor appears working fully as governor
already by making internal changes and putting structures in place to
run the state as the defacto governor.
