de-registered 28 political parties for alleged non performance.
INEC confirmed the development Thursday night .
A statement issued by the Commission's Secretary, Abdullahi Kaugama,
INEC justified the action noting it was in line with the powers
confered on it by the I999 Constitution as amended and the Electoral

of our electoral democracy", Kaugamastated.
Reacting, national chairman of one of the affected parties, the
peoples salvation party (PSP), Dr Junaid Mohammed said he is not
surprised with the decision by INEC to deregister the aforementioned
parties.
Acknowledging that most of the regsistered parties shouldn't have been
registered in the first place, he accused prof Jega of exploitingthe
deregistration exercise to settle personal vendatta with his foes.
He said he knew abinitio that most of the political parties were put
in place by INEC officials keen on pocketing statutory allocations
meant for political parties.
Mohammed who claimed he ran the PSP without any form of blemish also
said most of the aforementioned parties were actually registered by
persons acting as front for the ruling peoples democratic party (PDP).

OLUBAYO OLUWATOYIN DAMILOLA OLAYINKA
Born some twenty-something years ago on the 8th of December, Olayinka
is the eldest of three children and the only female- the product of
the union between Olakunle and Grace Olubayo.
Yinka, as many call her, is a fun-loving, enthusiastic, determined,
goal-driven and no-nonsense young lady who has weathered so many
storms in being what she is today.
She has over the past nine years, after the loss of her mum, her dad
having died earlier; been the pillar in the lives of her two younger
brothers (Paul and Peter Olubayo).
Over the past twenty-one years in my dealings and association with
this dynamic personality, she has proven time and time again to be a
selfless and caring mother-in-making (a trait she picked up from her
mum).
A girl with a lion's heart, she has consistently strived in her own
little way, in making her presence felt positively.
Good testimonies of her character abound everywhere right from her
secondary school days. Little wonder she was made the Senior Prefect
Girl.
Olayinka is a lover of children and I'm proud to be associated with a
lady of such inestimable value.
No "famzing", Olayinka is my elder sister!
God bless you for us. Igba odun, odun kan. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FIRST LOVE.

THE BIG QUESTION
One of the cushioning measures President Goodluck Jonathan gave for
the removal of fuel subsidy in January, was the provision of 144 mass
transit buses nationwide.
I dare to ask:
"Has anyone seen any of these buses??????"

FG to construct new Abuja city to mark Nigeria’s centenary
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) onWednesday approved the
construction of a new city in Abuja as part of activities to mark
Nigeria's centenary celebration slated for 2014.
Nigeria, as a geo-political entity, came into existence following the
amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates in 1914by
Britain.
Nigeria, therefore, became a nation when thethen Governor-General of
the country, Lord Frederick Lugard, merged the Southern and Northern
Protectorates.
Briefing State House correspondents after theweekly FEC meeting, the
Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said the proposed new city
would be private sector driven.
Maku, however, stated that the Federal Government through the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT) would provide an area where the city would be
sited.
"The new city that has been proposed as partof our centenary
celebration is entirely private sector driven and no kobo from the
government. Let that be very clear. This is absolutely private sector
driven with private sector investment.
"All that government will do is to provide an area through the FCT,
agree on a proper design and then it will be taken up completely,
totally by the private sector.
"The only few government's facility that will be there will be an
archive for celebrations."
He said the project was another way by government to encourage private
sector to create additional facilities in the FCT, saying that the
project might take years before completion.
President Goodluck Jonathan had said that the government would mark
the nation's 100years of existence during an official visit to
Jamaica, where he attended the Caribbean country's 178th Anniversary
of Emancipation and the 50th anniversary of its independencerecently.
Also briefing correspondents on the outcomeof the meeting, the
Minister of FCT, Sen. Bala Muhammed, frowned at the negative reactions
of some people to FEC's approval of a new Banquet Hall at the
Presidential Villa.
Muhammed dismissed claims that N2.2 billionapproved for the
construction of the project was not captured in the FCT statutory
allocation.
"I wish to clear the misconception that we don't have a provision in
the budget and to explain that the FCT operates two budgets. It is in
the FCT statutory budget.
On the development of the new "Smart City", the FCT Minister stated
that it was in line with government's policy of unbundling the FCT to
private initiative.
He said about 16 companies would be investing about US$4 billion in
the development of 10 districts in the smart city.
Stupid isn't it?

Stupidity of the Highest Degree: Bode George wins Leadership Award by NANS
So, here's someone to emulate –
Bode George, People's Democratic Party chieftain, yes the same one who
was convicted and sent to maximum security prison in 2009 for abuse of
office has now been announced winner of the Africa Leadership Awards.
George who is the former deputy National Chairman of the PDP was
picked by the All Africa Students Union (AASU) based on the
recommendation of the National Association of Nigerian students and
ratified by the executive council of AASU, a regional student
organisation with members across 54 Africancountries and headquarters
in Ghana.
According to its project coordinator, Geoge was selected for this
award – apparently the 15th edition – based on his "commitment to
youth development and his defense of democratic institutions" leading
him to join other past winners including the United Nation's former
secretary general, Kofi Annan, and George's former comrade, Olusegun
Obasanjo, amongst others.
The award will be presented to him, alongside a leadership lecture, on
December 12.
We believe another thanksgiving celebration is in order.
Isn't this the most stupid thing you've heard??

SHORT STORY: MY STORY (1)- Olubayo Paul
My name is Titilayo Ogunyemi. I am the only girl of the four children
my parents gave birth to. The last child- baby of the family.
My dad is a neurosurgeon and works at the College of Medicine, Yale
University, USA. Which means he is not usually around.
My mum on the other hand is the Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor of my state on Women Affairs. She too is absent from home
most of the time.
If she isn't in Gambia with the Governor's entourage, she would be at
the state house immersed in the numerous intricating policies of the
state.
Now why am I telling you all this? It is only normal that I give you a
background knowledege of my background!
That sounds confusing isn't it?
Alright, let me begin my story before I bore you out of your skin.
Three years ago, four weeks before my eighteenth birthday, something
happened to me. Something that would eventually change my life
forever.
My uncle who had just concluded his first degree Psychology course in
the University of Michigan, was scheduled to come home that fateful
day. The day- Saturday, August 7, 2010.
As my two most senior brothers were away for the National Youth
Service Program to Kaduna and Ebonyi respectively, the luck of meeting
my uncle at the airport fell on the youngest of my brothers, Jide- my
immediate elder brother.
Jide arrived early from school, Babcok University, to freshen up and
get dad's LandRover jeep ready for the airport.
Uncle Bosun's (that was the name of my "Yankee" uncle) flight was
expected to arrive Nigeria arond 12:30pm.
Jide left the house for the airport an hour before Uncle Bosun's
scheduled arrival. I was busy with cooking and the general house
cleaning.
Hardly had I finished my chores to settle down with my canned
coca-cola and watch my favorite TV Drama series on DSTV, Tinsel, when
I heard Adamu, the gateman, open the gate.
I jumped up, adjusted the yellow "Hackett" top I wore with my black
jegging and ran down the stairs to help with the luggages.
Little did I know that I was running to another chapter of my life.
I was going to spend the night alone with my uncle from America.
Jide was going back to school; he had a 7:00am test the next day. Mum
was away with the Governor in Abuja and dad won't be back till the
first week of September.

SPORTS UPDATE: MESSI'S INJURY SCARE
Lionel Messi has been stretchered off for Barcelona during its
Champions League clashwith Benfica .
Tito Vilanova chose not to start with the Argentine forward in the
team's final group stage game, but brought him on midway through the
second half as the Blaugrana pushed for a win.
With five minutes left - and the game still goalless - the Ballon d'Or
favorite went downclutching his leg and had to be taken off the pitch
at Camp Nou by medics, not long after he wasted an opportunity to give
the Liga giants a late lead.
"Messi has a bruise on the outside of his left knee. He'll undergo
further tests to determine the exact extent of the injury," was the
message from Barcelona's official Twitter account following the game.
After the star substitute's withdrawal, neither side was able to break
the deadlock and the clash finished 0-0, eliminating Benfica into the
Europa League while allowing Celtic to advance after it beat Spartak
Moscow.
Many suspected Wednesday night would be the moment when Messi equalled
- or even surpassed - Gerd Muller's record of 85 goals in a calendar
year.
However, should Messi's injury rule him out for a couple of weeks, the
winter break that Spanish clubs partake in could allow the legendary
German striker's record remain intact.
Barcelona fielded a largely second string squad against the Portuguese
side as first place in Group G was already assured, so its stalemate
with Jorge Jesus' side is unlikely totrouble Vilanova.
A serious injury to his star player, on the other hand, would no doubt
trouble the head coach of the Catalan giants, despite their huge lead
at the top of La Liga this season.
