Patience flown abroad for medical check up

There are indications that the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan,
Patience, has been flown abroad for medical treatment inan undisclosed
German hospital.


Unconfirmed reports had it that the First Lady's health might have
relapsed, thereby necessitating her going abroad to receive fresh
medical attention.


Mrs. Jonathan was conspicuously absent at a Good Friday service held
at the Aso Villa Chapel on Friday although her husband attended with
his mother, Eunice.
The President is currently in Lagos for the Easter break without his wife.


Her last public appearance was in France where she received a Global
Women Leaderfor Peace Award 2013.


We learnt that she returnedto the country briefly after the event
before embarking on a fresh trip.


But unlike the trip to France, a presidency source who pleaded
anonymity, said Mrs. Jonathan did not embark on the current trip with
her full entourage.


When contacted on the telephone, Mrs. Jonathan's spokesman, Mr. Ayo
Osinlu, confirmed that the First Lady was not in the country.


Osinlu however denied reports that Mrs. Jonathan is abroad for medical
attention.
He said she was abroad attending to her foster mother who is sick.
However, he did not disclose the country where the First Lady is
attending to the ailing woman.


But investigations by our correspondent showed that Mrs. Jonathan may
be in Germany.
It was further learnt that she is expected back in the country this week.


The source however could not say exactly when she will be back.
An online news medium, SaharaReporters , had reported on Saturday that
Mrs. Jonathan was sick again and was shuttling between Spain and
Germany in search of treatment.


The report quoted a source as saying the First Lady was also
contemplating receivingmedical treatment from a United States
hospital.


Mrs. Jonathan disappeared from the country for several weeks last year
to attend to her failing health.


During the period, both the Presidency and Osinlu denied that the
First Lady was receiving treatment abroad for an undisclosed ailment.


Specifically, Osinlu said Mrs. Jonathan was vacating abroad after the
rigour of hosting a conference of African First Ladies.
But during a special thanksgiving service held in her honour recently
at the Aso Villa Chapel, the First Lady admitted that she was sick and
"died" for a week.

have been unemployed.

SET-UP: I never knew the girl that took the picture of both of us on the bed

In December last year, Dami duro crooner Davido was enveloped in a
second lady-in-bed photo scandal with an unnamed girl after the first
one involving girl friend Sonia went viral in March while holidaying
in Ghana.


Davido has kept mum on the matter until now when he tells former Big
Brother Africa house mate Ebuka Obi Uchendu hosts of TV programme
Rubbing Minds that he never knew this girl.


"I was asleep in bed. The girl just snuck in and (makes gesture of
taking photograph) I don't know her. I used to stay in an apartment
back then and movement was kind of free. Maybe I didn't lock the door
and she just snuck in and took the pix. I have however moved to my new
home where there is much tighter security.


I didn't realise what was going on even after the pix was posted
online. I traveled to Ghana immediately afterwards and I noticed on
the plane people were just staring at me and I wondered why. Since it
was a flight my phone was switched off and so I had no ideawhat was
happening online. When I got to Ghana, I still got the same stare from
people.


I was asked by friends to switch on my phone and that was it. 300
calls from Dad, 600 calls from grandma, everyone one asking Davido
what's going on."


Davido claims the girl in question later called his 'people' to
apologise but then the damage had already been done. He hopes such
incidences never occur again as he maintains his resilience to finish
his studies, face his music business and continue to be a role model
to others.

and the general public about my voluntary exit from the label.


After my initial two year contractual agreement with Chocolate City, I

to continuemy music career with my new team at Jesse Jagz Nation.


I still maintain a cordial relationship withthe management of
Chocolate City and my former label matesand I wish them the best in
all their future endeavours.

This comes as a sudden shock to everyone including some staff and
executives at Chocolate City but those in the know will tell you this
was long expected.


Close sources to Jesse Jagz and Chocolate City tell us there had been
an ungoing war between the ' Wetin dey ' singer and the popular label.


Jagz, one source told NET, 'was fed up with the way the label was
handling his career and decided to frustrate them in return.'


Jagz last release was his debut album in May 2010, after then he sort
of went into comatose, save for his production of Ice Prince and
BrymO's albums in 2011 and 2012 and a few minor releases, we might not
have noticed his presence.

claims that Jesse Jagz, a truly talented rapper and producer, is
addicted to Marijuana.

Sources say Sola Oladebo, Jesse's manager for the last three years, is
tired of the whole situation.


' Sola is tired, fed up but can't leave him now, he has invested too
much time in Jargo. At a time, there was nothing to doas Jesse career
was dormant, so when Choc City fired Ice Prince's former manager in
2012, they made Sola the interim manager '.


We are told till the night of his shocking announcement, elder brother
M.I and the other Choc Boys were unaware of his self-imposed exit. M.I
had just released his comeback single for his next album ' The
Chairman ' when Jesse dropped the bombshell.


' M.I was as shocked as everyone else. He's not happy Jesse didn't
tell him of the situation first. He has erased all thoughts of leaving
Choc City now as a sign to show loyalty ', a friend to M.I says.


An insider told us over the weekend, that the last straw that broke
the camel's back was when Audu Maikori , top exec at the label
summoned him via E-mail, hesimply replied with two words ' F**k You '.


Maikori could not be reached and we're told that following Jagz'
statement, he immediately contacted all staff (includingartistes) and
instructed them not to speak to the press.


Attempts to reach him and other staff at the label through emails,
phone calls andtext messages have been unsuccessful.


Jesse's manager could not be reached for comments as his mobile phone
was switched off.

CRAZY: Bride kills Groom on their wedding day

Instead of heading to his wedding today, thefamily of this groom will
head to his funeral.


A 31-year-old woman from Whitehall is behindbars after being accused
of stabbing her boyfriend in the heart and killing him on the day that
they were supposed to get married.


Officials from the District Attorney's office say Nacola Franklin is
charged with one count of criminal homicide in the stabbing death of
36-year-old Billy Brewster.


Investigators said police received a 911 call from 1580 Olympic Circle
in Whitehall at 2:19 am on Saturday. When they arrived, Brewster was
found in a second floor landing outside his apartment.


He had been stabbed twice and was taken to Lehigh County Hospital,
where he was pronounced dead just over an hour later.


Investigators said the couple lived together in the apartment. They
were supposed to get married on that day. Police have not said what
the motive was for the killing.

OBJ the Comedian

Nigeria's former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, never ceases to
amaze. He can choose to be serious this minute while playing the
perfect comedian the very next minute.


At a recent event at the Government House of his home state, Ogun in
South-West Nigeria, the retired Army General and erstwhile Head of
State did not forget to turn up with his comdedian's apparel.

citizen sought to dodgethe camera lens by turning swiftly to grab a
young white man who was part of an international delegation on

REVEALED: How Awo's son died

Details have emerged of how Chief Oluwole, the oldest surviving son of
late sage Obafemi Awolowo, died last night.


A statement by the management of Nigeria's oldest surviving newspaper
Tribune , of which Wole (shown in photo) was Publisher, said he died
at 7:40 p.m. Nigerian time following complications that arose from a
2006 car crash. The statement disclosed that Wole had been "in and out
of hospital, home and abroad" since that accident. The statement said:


"WE announce the home call of the Publisher/Vice Chairman of the
African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, Publishers of the Tribune
titles, Chief Oluwole Awolowo. He was 70.


Chief Awolowo died at 7.40 p.m. Nigerian time, on Wednesday, at
Wellington Hospital, St Johnswood, London, following complications
arising from a car crash that occurred on September 30, 2006.


"He had been in and out of hospital, home and abroad, since he was
involved in the ghastly accident seven years ago on the Lagos-Ibadan
expressway.


"Despite his health challenges following the accident, Chief Awolowo
devoted his life to the service of God and was deeply involved
inevangelical activities.


In the past four years, he authored a Christian column, OBA'S LECTERN,
in the Sunday Tribune .


"He fought a good fight and has gone to rest with his Maker.
"We ask for prayers at this most trying time for the Awolowo family
and for the ANN Plc."
News Express reports that condolence messages have been pouring in to
Tribune and the Awolowo family. To Ogun State Governor Ibikunle
Amosun, Wole's death is "asad occurrence which has thrown the state
into mourning" and "is made worse by the fact that he is survived by
his mother, Chief H I D Awolowo."


On its part, Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, said
in a statement released by its publicity secretary, Mr. Yinka
Odumakin: "The entire Afenifere family mourns the passing away of the
scion of our illustrious leader's family, Chief Oluwole Awolowo. His
death is big pain and loss to all of us who are followers of the
sage."

I am surprised that I have not read in any media, local or
international, about efforts by the Nigerian government to help two
Nigerian students who have been on deportation list in Canada for a
'crime' that makes mockery of the very idealsthat western societies
proud themselves on – hard work.


Victoria Ordu and Ihuoma Amadi, 20 and 21 respectively, having been
holed up in the basement of a churchin Canada – not for document
forgery. No, not for 419, internet scam or fake marriage, but for
attempting to work and earn decent stipends to augment what they get
from home.


The news media in Canada has been awash with the reports since June
2012 when the two University of Regina students took refuge in a
church hoping that the Canadian authorities will forgive them for
working in Walmart for two weeks. The issue here is that the student
visathey carry permits them to work on campus but not outside.


The students have in their various interviews stated that they stopped
the Walmart jobs immediately they became aware of the restriction. But
the Canada authorities have simply refused to budge. Maybe the
situation has lingered the way it is because of the green color of the
passport they carry.


I doubt that the Canadian authorities would have held their grounds
the way they've done for almost a year now if these two students were
Americans, Indians, Chinese or even South Africans. As one born of
Nigerian parents in the US, I have the privilege of knowing how it
feels traveling with the Nigerian passport and that of the US.


It is instructive that while Walmart that employed the students have
gone without any rebuke from the government, these two young ladies
have remained imprisoned in a church basement for more than nine
months now without knowing what day light looks like. While
immigrationauthorities accepted that Walmart had made an honest
mistake in their hiring practices, the same leniency wasn't granted to
the students.


"Walmart was given the benefit of thedoubt, while the students
weren't," said Michelle Stewart, one of the Canadians campaigning for
the release of the two Nigerians. "The most common response to this
type of infraction is a fine of $320," said Stewart.


"This is Canada, but it feels like hell for us," Ihuoma said in an
interview with CBS Canada.
"We feel forgotten here, nothing is happening at all." Friends and
well-wishers of these two students have in the last nine months
mountedpressure on the Canadian government, but not much has been
achieved. I have been involved in the social media campaign to drum
support for these innocent young Nigerians, but much as the protests
on and off line continues to grow, theCanadian authorities have
remained hard-heartened.


Canada holds strong trade relations with Nigeria and is hoping to grow
its economic presence in the country as a springboard to reach the
rest of Africa. Being Canada's largest trading partner in sub-Saharan
Africa should serve as an incentive in extracting theright government
action on diplomatic matters like this. This is the time for Nigeria
to flex some diplomatic and economic muscles. I remember when the
reclusive North Korean government arrested two US journalists and
sentenced them to 12 years imprisonment with hard labourfor illegally
entering the country.


President Obama sent former president Clinton to the country and in 24
hours those two lady journalistswere released to join their families.
Nigeria, by virtue of its economic and strategic might, can achieve
similar result when efforts are made from the top. I expect President
Jonathan's government to act now. Please save Victoria and Ihuoma from
what their lawyer has described as 'honest mistake'.

Obama's car breaks down

It was a tale of the unexpected yesterday when an armoured limousine
supposed to beused to convey visiting US President Barack Obama in
Israel broke down in Israel after being filled with the wrong type of
fuel.


Israel's Channel 2 reports that the car had been waiting for the
arrival of the entourage of the US leader when it was filled with
diesel instead of petrol.


A replacement limousine had to be flown in from neighbouring Jordan,
according to Maariv newspaper.


Obama, who is making his first visit to Israel since taking office,
was welcomed at Ben Gurion airport, Tel Aviv, by Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres.


It is believed the limousine had left the airport some two hours
previously and had broken down on its way to Jerusalem where Obama was
due later.


The owner of a local tow-truck company, MotiMatmon, told Britain's
Daily Telegraph that theUS Consulate in Jerusalem had asked him to
recover the vehicle.


"They told me that this was Obama's car," he was quoted as saying.
"They didn't say what had happened to it. They just said it had got
stuck. Only the mechanic was there when I arrived. The driver had left
in another car.


The whole thing was very funny."

Indigenes of Ila-Orangun, the home town of former Inspector General of
Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, have urged President Goodluck Jonathan to
pardon their son, Tafa. The people have called on the president to
extend state pardon to the former IGP, saying his conviction was
political.


The Osun State Chairman of the defunct Justice Party, Mr. Adesoji
Adeleke, made this known on Friday. Adeleke, who hails from Obalogbo's
compound, Oke-Jigbo, in Okomo Ruling House, Ila-Orangun, said it was
wrong of the Federal Government to leave out Balogun in the state
pardon.


According to him, "We are contactingall Ila parapo on Sunday with a
view to knowing what next step to take on the issue. His travail is
not unconnected with the politics of succession at that time… Is the
pardon of a former Governor of Bayesla State, Dieprieye
Alamieyesiegha, the sole reason why President Jonathan extended the
pardon to some other select individuals?


Osun too deserves to enjoy the pardon. We trust that the President
will extend the pardon to Balogun."


Another resident of Ila, Group Captain Raimi Ogunbunmi, also calledon
Jonathan to pardon Balogun, saying the era of the former IG witnessed
unprecedented development in the police force.


Explaining that Balogun was a 'victim of circumstance,' Ogunbunmi,
said it was wrong to jail Balogun at the time.

#OgaAtTheTop says there's nothing wrong with interview

The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
(NSCDC), Dr Ade Abolurin, has made it clear that the Lagos State Corps
Commandant, Mr Obafaiye Shem, has not committed any punishable offence
on the account of the recent television interview he granted.


The NSCDC boss also debunked rumours that Mr Obafaiye had been suspended.


Abolurin made this known on Wednesday, in Abuja, at the annual
national cooperative society meeting of the corps. He said if the
Lagos State commandant was interviewed, and in the process lost his
composure, that "did not call for sanction."


According to Abolurin, "it is an internal measure; we will keep you
posted; we are still on course because he has not committed any
offence. If a person is being interviewed, and in the process the
person could not compose himself, that does not result to a crime; it
is a question of maturity," he stated.


He however expressed determination to engage officers in more training
and re-training:

"You know I am an advocate of building skills, encouraging trainings,
human development and capacity building. We are trying at all levels
to ensure that our men are well trained and well articulated because
training is supposed to be continuous," he added.

Earlier, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State had said that even
if all the roads were tarred,members of the party would appreciate the
provision of food on their tables.


"I join all my brothers in the South-South in welcoming you (Tukur).
Even as an elected governor, I must tell you this. Even if you tar all
the roads in the South-South without putting food on the table, our
members will not appreciate the party", Uduaghan said.


Continuing, he said, "If you want to prevent our members from straying
to other parties, you must put food in the stomach of our supporters."


Shortly after the Delta state governor spoke, Akpabio, in reference to
Uduaghan's speech, added that he would give N1m to each of the party
chairmen for their launch in order not to defect to other political
parties.


He said, "My brother Governor, Uduaghan, said our members are hungry
and that we must put food intheir stomach so that they don't strayto
other parties. I am giving all the state chairmen of the party N1
million each for Mr Biggs. Our members must not be hungry."

UPDATE: Bomb Blast in Sabo-Gari, Kano, 20 Killed, many injured

No fewer than twenty people were confirmed killed in a bomb explosion
today inNew Road Motor Park in the predominantly christian
neighborhood of Sabon Gari in Kano. We learnt this information from an
anonymous military source.


This number is an increase in earlier reportedfigures. There are also
a number of injured persons who have been taken to various hospitals
around the city.


I saw three buses on fire. One of them was fully loaded with
passengers waiting to leave the station at the time of the blasts. At
the moment there at least 20 dead," said the rescue official who
requested anonymity.


Residents said the explosion occurred at a bus station in city of Kano
on Monday, causing panic and injured bystanders to flee the area.


"There was a huge blast at the New Road motor park," said area
mechanic Tunde Kazeem.

"The blast was followed by billows of black smoke and there was a lot
of confusion with people rushing out of the motor park, some of them
with blood on their clothes."


Kano is among the northern cities attacked repeatedly by Islamist
group Boko Haram, blamed for killing hundreds in Nigeria since 2009.


The station was attacked in January of last year in a blast which
wounded several peopleand which was blamed on Boko Haram, but itwas
not clear what caused the latest explosion.


The targeted station primarily services passengers heading to the
mostly Christian south of Nigeria, Africa's most populous country.

The Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence
Corps, NSCDC, Mr.Obafaiye Shem, has dismissed the stories making the
roundsabout his suspension from work saying he is still in- charge of
the command.


According to the commandant, he has been on casual leave to perform
the burial rites of his father Pa Michael Obafaye, who died on
February 8, 2013 at the age of 82 and will resume at his duty post
next Thursday.


He said; "I am still the State Commandant of NSCSC and I am determined
to work hard to expose the vandals across the State."


Shem who recently celebrated his 100 days inoffice said already, he
has some pending fileson his table which will be treated as soon as he
resumes work. Since assumption of office, the Command under his
leadership, has uncovered several hideouts of vandals especially at
Arepo, Festac town and Epe and has paraded several pipeline vandals
including three siblings.


It will be recalled that the social media was awash over the alleged
suspension of Mr. Obafaye from office by the Ministry of Interiorfor
postulating the "my oga at the top" mantra during a live interview on
Lagos-based Channels Television last Tuesday.

Reports reaching Olubayo's Blog say that the Lagos State Commandant of
the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr.Obafaiye
Shem, the man who postulated the "my oga at thetop" mantra has been
suspended from office by the Ministry of Interior.


As at the time of filing this report, no reason was given for Shem's
suspension as no official of the Ministry agreed to speak to our
reporter. However, we gathered that it may not be unconnected with the
embarrassing interview the commandant granted Channels Television
early this week.


Mr. Obafaiye ordeal started when he appeared on Channels Television
morning programme 'Sunrise' and when asked the NSCDC website he said:


"Hmmm, the website is, excuse me, my Oga atthe top knows the website",
he again, cleared his throat and said: "My Oga at the top is working
on the website and I don't have them".


When the presenters insisted that he give a functioning website
address of the para-military, he dropped the bombshell:

"ww.nscdc, that's all".


Immediately, the interview went viral and hasbecome so popular to the
extent that t-shirts with "my oga at the top" insignia has been
produced and selling like hot cake across the country. Some DJ's and
musicians have done what they called remix of the interview.

''My sister inlaw came to pray with me last two years. She said she

me all over the place to kill me. I got off from them narrowly and ran
into a market. There, a mad man began to chase me.


I escaped him narrowly then 2 rapist-thugs came after me. All the
while, I felt I was carrying someone else's face.


I ran into a house with people praying. The lady in charge there
looked at me and showed me a picture of my self with my regular
synthetic dread-like hair and said"but that is ur regular look, why
are you carrying someone elses' face.


Then from no where another lovely lady camefrom outside, drew me to
the corner and began to ask me about my look. She said"you are having
problems with your hair right?" Whilst she was talking, I noticed
something in her mouth; a bowl of cowries and the face of a Benin god,
I looked closer and asked her what it was and why she had it.


She said her man likes her because of that decor in her
mouth---cowries and the face of a god like a shrine in one's mouth?
she also said that she is comfortable and that it's beautiful.


I woke up and prayed and immediately understood what the message was
but didn't want to let go of my cute human hair that cost so much.


I decided to ask my husband because he interprets dreams accurately.


He immediately told me to remove the hair. At the same time, the
Spirit told me to cut it off and not remove it gracefully because it
tried to bring me shame and pain.
Cut it off, anoint your head, anoint and pray on the hair to refute
all ill and do not just throw it away but burn it. I obeyed.


I have decided to only carry my natural hair or synthetic hair.
This is because the Bible says; "The hair is thewoman's crowning
glory". Carrying another's is like carrying the other person's spirit.


The worst is even Indian.
Nothing wrong with Indians; They are beautiful and we love them
especially in films but those hairs sold are sacrifices to gods. Thus,
they are cursed.


There are loads of other human-looking hair made with synthetic in the
market if you want that look or if you insist on wearing real human
hair, try those from other Countries but pray on them and be ready to

MIRACLE: Nigerian Pastor gets triplets after 25years barreness

It was a joyful occasion for the Redeemed Christian Church of God
(RCCG) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State as Soji Oni, a Provincial
Pastor, dedicated a set of triplets after twenty five years of
childlessness with his wife.


The triplets, named Miracle, Sign and Wonder, were dedicated to God at
the King's Place Parish, Port Harcourt, headquarters of Rivers
Province 2 of the RCCG.


An overwhelmed Oni told a cheering congregation that it takes a man
with heart and foundation built on God to patiently wait twenty five
years for the fruit of the womb.


He said: "Twenty five years is not twenty five days. It was a very big
challenge not only as afamily man but as a pastor who prays for others
for the same problem and they receive. But today our prayers have been
answered.


"God knows our problems. I didn't pray to have triplets but He gave
one. Many families break for not being able to bear children, but we
should continue to trust in the Lord no matter the challenges. Our
challenges are not bigger than God."


Also sharing the tough times the family endured in the long wait for a
child, the wife called on women to love and pray together with their
husbands during tribulations as God is the only one who "knows our
problems."

Emenike to NFF: "I am not a use and dump player"

Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike, has expressed his unhappiness,

Stephen Keshi has treated him, after he picked up a hamstring injury
at the Africa Cup of Nations.


The Spartak Moscow player, who ended the competition as the top
scorer, says he has not heard from the coach, who eventually left him

"I must be honest with you, I have not been treated well by the coach

It is not everything that is money, but a call just to show you care

He however went on to praise his Russian club, who stood by him all
the way and are helping him get back to thepitch.


"I must give kudos to my club for takinggood care of me even though I
didn't get the injury while playing for them," he said.
"I can't wait to return to my best form. I feel like playing and
banging in the goals for my club right now.


"I am happy with my rehabilitation and Iwill start joggling soon and I

Lynxxx involved in nightclub fight, stabs reveller

Syndik8 member and Pepsi ambassador Lynxxx might have just landed
himself in soup due to his recent exploits on the night scene. The
Jollof music crooner was at N-tyce night club; a new club in Victoria
Island partying with the rest of his crew last Friday. Himself,
Ikechukwu's brother Uzzi, SDC, Uti Nwachukwu, Banky W, Timi Dakolo and
a host of other musicians were at the club when a scuffle broke out.


Security at the club quickly pushed out the people that started the
fight, and at the centre of it was Lynxxx who said a certain Richard
a.k.a Pope slapped his cousin.


The manager of the night club pleaded with Lynxxx and his syndicate
crew who numbered about 30 to make peace but they insisted that
Richard must be brought out of the club.


Banky W who was not involved in the fight also pleaded with him but it
all fell on deaf ears.


After about 1 hour, Lynxxx and his gang rushed into the club and
started fighting. He broke a bottle and stabbed Richard while
alsoinjuring and cutting himself by mistake.


The whole club turned upside down as guests scampered out for safety.
A lot of drinks and equipment worth millions were damaged.
The victim; Richard a.k.a Pope who is a UK based entrepreneur has
since reported the case to the police.

After his Gaffe on National TV, the Lagos State NSCDC Commandant, Mr
Obafaiye Shem, who was interviewed on Channels Television and couldn't
tell his organisation's website, has immediately issued a statement in
his defense, saying his"reluctance to put ' dot.com 'at the end of the
website was totally intentional and not regretted"


In his statement, he says he "intentionally shied away from using the
dot com", as it sounded sexual, in fact, too sexual to be
uttered on "Live TV".


He also said the presence of a Woman on thepanel made him "too
uncomfortable to say the word 'com', a Homonym of 'cum' as it would
have been embarassing for her".


In an exclusive Telephone chat with GossipHA magazine, he further said:


"Look, i did not want to embarass myself by saying such dirty word.
There was a woman there, how would i have sounded? I am a man of high

Banky W is now out to find a replacement for Wizkid as the strained
relationship between the two has finally snapped.


Both had been trading words on social media as it concerns their

A video producer close to Banky told R on Friday that the producer had
made up his mind to find a young musician to replace Wizkid "just to
teach the kid a lesson".


Devastated by Wizkid's refusal to renew management contract with
Banky's EME outfit, the America-returnee has begun scouting for

Long Live the Pope

Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio waselected by his peers
Wednesday as the new pope, becoming the first pontiff from the
Americas.


He chose the name Francis, drawing connections to the humble
13th-century saintwho saw his calling as trying to rebuild the church
in a time of turmoil.
As the long-time archbishop of Buenos Aires, Francis has spent nearly
his entire career at home in Argentina, overseeing churches and
shoe-leather priests. In choosing a 76-year-old pope, the cardinals
clearly decided that they didn't need a vigorous, young pope whowould
reign for decades but rather a seasoned, popular and humble pastor who
would draw followers to the faith and help rebuild a church stained by
scandal.


Groups of supporters waved Argentine flags in St. Peter's Square as
Francis, wearing simple white robes, made his first public appearance
as pope.


Chants of "Long live the pope!" arose from the throngs of faithful,
many with tears in their eyes. Crowds went wild as the Vatican and
Italian military bands marched through the square and up the steps of
the basilica, followed by Swiss Guards in silver helmets and full
regalia.


Francis appeared on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica just after a
church official announced"Habemus Papum" -- "We have a pope" -- and
gave Bergoglio's name in Latin.


"Ladies and Gentlemen, good evening," he said to wild cheers before
making a reference to his roots in Latin America, whichaccounts for
about 40 percent of the world's Roman Catholics.


Francis asked for prayers for himself, and for retired Pope Emeritus
Benedict XVI, whose surprising resignation paved the way for the
conclave that brought the first Jesuit to the papacy.


"You know that the work of the conclave is to give a bishop to Rome,"
Francis said. "It seems as if my brother cardinals went to find him
from the end of the earth. Thank you for the welcome."
In one of his first acts as pope, Francis on Thursday morning planned
to visit Benedict at the papal retreat in Castel Gandolfo south of
Rome.


American Cardinal Timothy Dolan said Wednesday night at the North
American College, the U.S. seminary in Rome, that Francis told fellow
cardinals following the conclave that made him pope: "Tomorrow
morning, I'm going to visit Benedict."


The visit is significant because Benedict's resignation has raised
concerns about potential power conflicts emerging from the peculiar
situation of having a reigning pope and a retired one.


Bergoglio has shown a keen political sensibility as well as the kind
of self-effacing humility that fellow cardinals value highly,
according to his official biographer, Sergio Rubin. He showed that
humility on Wednesday, saying that before he blessed thecrowd he
wanted their prayers for him and bowed his head.


"Good night, and have a good rest," he said before going back into the palace.
In a lifetime of teaching and leading priests inLatin America, which
has the largest share of the world's Catholics, Francis has been known
for modernizing an Argentine church that had been among the most
conservative in Latin America.


Like other Jesuit intellectuals, Bergoglio has focused on social
outreach. Catholics are still buzzing over his speech last year
accusing fellow church officials of hypocrisy for forgetting that
Jesus Christ bathed lepers andate with prostitutes.


Francis, the son of middle-class Italian immigrants, is known as a
humble man who denied himself the luxuries that previous Buenos Aires
cardinals enjoyed. Bergoglio often rode the bus to work, cooked his
own meals and regularly visited the slums that ringArgentina's
capital.


He came close to becoming pope in 2005, reportedly gaining the
second-highest vote total in several rounds of voting before he bowed
out of the running in the conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI.


Cardinal Dolan gave an inside glimpse into the drama of the conclave
in his talk at the American seminary.
When the tally reached the necessary 77 votes to make Bergoglio pope,
Dolan said, the cardinals erupted in applause. And when he accepted
the momentous responsibility thrust upon him -- ''there wasn't a dry
eye in the place," the American cardinal recounted.


After the princes of the church had congratulated the new pope one by
one, other Vatican officials wanted to do the same,but Francis
preferred to go outside and greetthe throngs of faithful. ''Maybe we
should go to the balcony first," Dolan recalled the pope as saying.


In choosing to call himself Francis, the new pope was linking himself
with the much-loved Italian saint from Assisi associated with peace,
poverty and simplicity.St. Francis was born to a wealthy family but
later renounced his wealth and founded the Franciscan order of friars;
he wandered about the countryside preaching to the people in very
simple language.


He was so famed for his sanctity that he was canonized just two years
after his death in 1226.

Redeemed Christian Church Interpreter Molests 12-Year-Old Girl, Church Attempts Cover Up

An interpreter with the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, identified as Akin Adewale, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl. The suspect allegedly committed the crime in his home located at number 6, Shamusideen, Oke-Sokori area of the town when his wife was not at home. The victim is said to be daughter of a church member of the suspect’s church, and was residing with the suspect and his wife, alongside their two kids.
After violently defiling the 12-year-old, the church leader threatened her and asked her not to tell anyone, the victim’s mother said. The traumatized girl defied the threats, ran to the house of her biological parents and crying profusely, narrated the event to her mother.
The victim’s mother reported to the Ogbe Unit of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), who arrested the suspect.
Mr. Adewale, a commercial photographer, confessed to the crime and blamed the devil for the act.
In his statement to the OPC, the suspect confessed that he used a cloth to cover the victim’s mouth before forcefully defiling her. He confessed that after he had his way, he threatened her and then gave her pain killers.
The mother of the victim, in her statement, said her daughter fled the couple’s home and came to her crying profusely about her nasty and ugly experience.

“My daughter came home crying and telling me she was no more interested in staying with daddy Favour (the suspect). She narrated a shocking revelation that the man covered her mouth with cloth and had s*x with her,” she said.
The mother said she reported the case to her husband, who decided that the alleged defiler must be arrested and prosecuted.
The victim has been taken to a private hospital located at Totoro area of the town for medication, while a laboratory investigation was also conducted at a private Diagnosis Laboratory situated along NTA road, Abeokuta.
Church seeks to cover the suspect up
Investigations revealed that officials of the church were frantically making moves to cover up the crime, as emissaries were sent to the victim’s parents and the OPC to appeal to them. When contacted, the zonal coordinator of the OPC, Akeem Bakenne, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, adding that investigation is still ongoing and the case will be handed over to the police later. The case was yet to be reported to the police as at the time of this report.

Alligator Fitted With New Prosthetic Tail

 

An Arizona alligator who had his tail bitten off eight years ago has been given a new prosthetic one by his keepers in Arizona.

Seven-foot long Mr Stubbs was one of 32 alligators confiscated from the back of a truck pulled over near Casa Grande in 2005.
His tail is believed to have been chewed off by another of the animals.
Mr Stubbs was given to the Phoenix Herpetological Society and now sports a 3ft-long prosthetic attachment.
It was crafted from silicone rubber by a team from the CORE Institute in Phoenix, which ordinarily specialises in orthopaedic care for humans.
  The tail is held on by a harness and nylon straps. Pic: KPNX-TV It had to be buoyant and also flexible, to allow Mr Stubbs to wiggle it and help him move through the water.
"It was just a process of figuring out how make a mould and then getting a mould and then playing with the material," Sarah Jarvis from CORE told KPNX-TV.
"I made some little models and figured out that it would be pretty good for the full tail," she added.
It will take months, however, before Mr Stubbs learns how to properly use the tail.
For now, his handlers are happy with smaller milestones, such as not trying to bite off the new attachment.
They might also need to come up with a new nickname.

HACKING: Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Beyonce and Jay-Z have their financial info hacked

Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and hip-hop's royal couple Beyonce and Jay-Z are all among a group of celebrities whose financial information has been hacked and posted online.
An anonymous website has posted the social security numbers, mortgage amounts, credit card info, car loans, banking and other information from at least 12 major celebrities and political figures, TMZ reported.
One of the police chiefs of the Los Angeles Police Department has also reportedly had his information posted online, according to BBC News.
"People get mad at us, go on the Internet and try to find information about us, and post it all on one site," LAPD Police Commander Andrew Smith said. "The best word I can use to describe it is creepy."
Both the LAPD and the FBI are investigating the hacking, which also targeted FBI Director Robert Mueller, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and First Lady Michelle Obama, according to the Sun.

Ashton Kutcher, Mel Gibson, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton also had information divulged online, the Associated Press reported.
None of the targeted celebrities' representatives have commented on whether the information is accurate, according to the AP.
The website did not explain how or why the targets were chosen, but has been traced to an IP address in Russia and initially included an anti-police message referencing former police officer Chris Dorner, who went on a rampage last month, BBC News reported.

Luiz Suarez rewarded with pay rise

Luis Suarez has been rewarded with a pay rise that will see him
earning in excess of £100,000-a-week at Liverpool, according to
several newspapers reports.

Suarez, 26, agreed a new long-term contract with Liverpool last
summer, with reports suggesting the deal doubled his previous wages
from £40,000-a-week to £80,000-a-week.


And that income has increased further, reports the Times and Telegraph
among others, as the Uruguay international has benefited from
incentive-based terms in his deal - as part of an initiative by owners
Fenway Sports Group.


It is claimed the striker, who has scored 21 goals in 27 Premier
League appearances this season, will earn more than £100,000-a-weekin
light of his excellent form for the Reds.


Suarez signed at Anfield from Ajax for £22 million in January 2011 and
has recently beenlinked with a switch away from the club, amid
reported interest from a number of sides. But Liverpool will hope the
reported pay rise will reinforce the forward's commitment on
Merseyside.


According to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, Suarez is now a
changed man looking to put his reputation for controversy behind him.

His two years in England have been as notable for trouble as for his
talent. He received an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester
United left-back Patrice Evra during a Premier League match in October
2011, and had repeatedly been accused of diving. In addition, he was

Uruguay international have vouched for the fact that he is just as

remarkable man. What I have admired from close hand is this is a guy
who is trying to change. He has come in here and been labelled many
things - sometimes, maybe, because he is a foreign player he will get
accused more.


"If a British player dives, we'll laugh and find it funny. But when
it's Luis Suarez, he is a diver. But this is a guy who is trying to
turn around his life and adapt to the culture and you can clearly see

Laide Bakare set to premiere TV show

Reality TV has proven to be an alternative means of making money apart
from making movies in Nigeria's entertainment industry. Reality shows

search, reality competition/game shows, but the celebrity subgenre is
something that is new in Nigeria. The ice was however broken with the
widely publicised Omotola's 'The Real Me' which airs on Africa Magic.


Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has also started her reality show
titled 'My Xperience', and according to the producers, the show will
portray her every day work, plans, and all the stress that comes with
her success.


Apart from Laide's new show, sources say there are several other
celebrities working on similar shows.When singer Goldie passed away,
it was revealed she was working on a reality show with best friend and
Channel O presenter Denrele. In fact, a few episodes were said to have

Odd: Man Tortures 6-Year-Old Daughter For Alleged Witchcraft

Headquarters of the Cross River StatePolice Command in Calabar is
playing host to a 42-year-old father Edet Etok-Akpan, who is being
questionedfor torturing his six-year-old daughter, Edidiong whom she
tortured because a church prophetess said the girl was a witch.


Edidiong was beaten and locked up in a room with her hands, mouth and
face bound for four days before she was rescued by neighbours.


Etok-Akpan, it was gathered started beating her on February 19 after
an unidentified prophetess in their church told him that Edidiong was
the witch responsible for the stagnancy in his life.


After the beatings which lasted for some days, her father on February
21 tied her hands with a cord and bound her mouth with a piece of
cloth, Edidiong told Punch on Monday.


"He locked me in the inner room of our house and he never gave me food
and never allowed me to go to school," she said.


A Basic three pupil of Femos Nursery and Primary School located at 24
Etyin Abasi Street, Edidiong said she became weak after days without
food or water.


She however became lucky on February 23, when a young neighbour at
their 42 Atakpa Street home came to their veranda to look for broom
and discovered her.



"The girl went to Edidiong's veranda to look for a broom and heard the
sound of the girl like that of someone battling with her last breath,"
a lawyer with the Basic Rights Counsel, Mr. James Ibor said as he gave
details of how the girl was rescued.


"She looked through the louvers of the window and saw Edidiong bound
on the floor and raised the alarm. Her parents and other neighbours
rushed to the place and saw Edidiong bound inside her apartment."


Ibor said one of the neighbours called him and he in turn informed the police.
"When the policemen and I got there, we saw a crowd gathered outside.
We were able to rescue the child by breaking the door.


"The girl was very weak because shehad been without food for days and
so we had to give her water first, then after about ten minutes we
gave her milk before solid food an hour later."


According to Ibor, the culprit and his wife had locked up the girl in
the inner room of their two-room apartment and went to church, adding
that the girl was presently living with her grandmother in another
part of the town.



The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Umoh, said
Etok-Akpan, who is from Akwa Ibom State, had been arrested and would
soon appear in court to answer charges of felony.


"To tie a small girl's hand and mouth and lock her in a room for some
dayswithout food is a grievous offence, he shall soon appear in
court," he said.


Umoh therefore warned parents to always treat their children with
care, adding that criminality increases daily because parents had
abandoned their responsibilities to their wards.
He also said the police would visit thechurch where the father got the prophecy.

Another suspected cultist shot dead in LASU

Another student of the Lagos State University,LASU, simply identified
as Kabiru, was on Sunday night allegedly killed by suspected cultists.


According to reports made available to DailyPost, Kabiru was shot dead
at about10pm, around Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko, Lagos.


Sources alleged that the killing of Kabiru was a reprisal to the
murder of up and coming hip hop artist, Damilola Damochie, a 400 level
Banking and Finance student of the university, who was on February 28
shot dead by suspected cultists at the institution's main gate.


"There are three main cult groups in LASU. They are Eiye, Buccaneer
and BlackAxe. Eiye and Buccaneer
have lost one member each. The war is between the two groups now.


"Members of the cult groups were celebrating the death of the
opposition group member in a hotel, when police arrested them,'' a
source said.


When contacted, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, DSP, Ngozi
Braide, confirmed the death of Kabiru, but did not give details if he
was a cultist or not. She also confirmed that more than 20 persons
have been arrested over the killing of Damoche.


She further noted that the suspects were arrested at Beno Hotel,
Isashi, Okokomaiko, Lagos, when they were having a party.
"We are screening the suspects with a view to ascertaining their
involvement inthe killing of the student-musician. Anyone found to be
involved will be prosecuted in court,'' Braide said.

Queen Elizabeth Hospitalized

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, suffering from gastroenteritis, was
admitted to hospital on Sunday, a Buckingham Palace spokesman told
AFP.


All the 86-year-old's engagements for this week, including a visit to
Rome, have been called off, the spokesman added.


"The Queen is being assessed at King Edward VII's Hospital in London
after experiencing symptoms of gastroenteritis. As a precaution, all
official engagements this week will be either postponed or cancelled,"
he said.


Britain's head of state is known for her robust health and devotion to
duty, and rarely misses engagements.


The sovereign first felt unwell on Friday and cancelled a visit
Saturday to a military celebration in the city of Swansea to mark St.
David's Day, the national day of Wales.


Instead of that engagement, she had been spending the weekend resting
at Windsor Castle, west of London.
That she was taken to the royals' regular hospital in central London
suggests that her condition was not serious enough to warrant going to
a hospital close to Windsor.


Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip were due to visit Rome
on Wednesday and Thursday, when they were to meet Italian President
Giorgio Napolitano.


The monarch celebrated her diamond jubilee in 2012, marking her 60

SPORTS: Obafemi Martins' attitude is unacceptable- Club captain
