A pastor was apprehended yesterday with the firearm by men ofthe Benue
State Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, in Katsina-Ala where he
allegedly tried to kill the accountant of the church, Mr. Philip
Toryila, during a heated arguement over money.
According to a source,"the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when
the pastor ordered the church accountant to handover church monies to
him for execution of a project and he refused.
"The refusal of the accountant angered the pastor who engaged him in a
fracas and in the process pulled out a gun on the accountant.
"In the process, the accountant shouted for help which attracted the
attention of another church official who alerted the police and they
quickly drafted some armed men of the squad to the place and arrested
the pastor."
The source added that "the accountant sustained a major facial injury
and other parts of his body and was quickly rushed to a private
hospital in Katsina-Ala where is now receiving treatment."
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy Suprintendent of Police
DanielEzeala, while confirming the story said: "The arrested pastor
was brought to the state command and he will soon be charged to court
for illegal possession of firearms but we are still conducting
investigations into the matter."

TRANSFER LATEST GIST: Manchester United Prepare £8m Bid for Celtic Star
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to make an
£8million transfer deadline day swoop for Celtic's highly-rated
midfielder Victor Wanyama.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal have scouted the Kenyan on several
occasions this season and have become increasingly impressed with the
midfielder, culminating in Wanyama's starring role in Celtic's 2-1
victory over Barcelona.
Celtic are likely to reject the offer due to the player's importance
as the Bhoys prepare for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
However, Kenyan FA president, Sam Nyamweya, suggested that the young
midfielder would be quitting Celtic in order to join a football
powerhouse, before Kenya's international friendly match againstLibya.
"Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world.
It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a
powerhouse in football," said Nyamweya, as quoted in the Scotsman .
According to ESPN , Sir Alex Ferguson watched Wanyama during Celtic's
4-0 win at home to Dundee United last week, refuelling the
speculation.
Wanyama could nonetheless be merely a second choice for Manchester
United, who are reportedly more interested in signing PSV Eindhoven
midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The highly-rated Dutch international has emerged as one of the
greatest talents in Europe and has been scouted by both Arsenal,
Tottenham and Manchester United representatives as early in December,
according to the Mail .
Hailed as "the next Mark van Bommel," Strootman is valued at around
£17m by PSV,a significantly higher price than what Wanyama potentially
could be leaving for.

CAN frowns at El-Rufai's comments on Jesus Christ
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday, described a
recent statement linked to former Federal Capital Territory Minister,
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Jesus Christ, as reckless and also
indicative of an untamed tongue filled with jabbers.
Addressing newsmen on the issue through its General Secretary, Rev.
Musa Asake, CAN warned El-Rufai that"if he persists in such matters
and making such divisive commentaries, he must prepare himself for a
very forceful and vigorous reaction from the Church and the Christian
community in Nigeria", adding that the "maturity and dignified
restraint of the Christian populace, in the face of inflammatory and
provocative statements, should not be taken as licence for unbridled
assault."
"We urge his religious leaders and political associates to advise him
to be far more sombre and circumspectand put a padlock on his mouth
before he lights the candle that sets our country on fire.
"On our part, we urge the Christian community and our Christian youths
to continue to be restrained and always seek peace, love and harmony,
in spite of the provocations that they are facing from the likes of
Nasir El-Rufai and those he represents.
"We must not allow him to turn Nigeria into a cauldron of fire by his
reckless, bigoted and twisted commentaries about our Lord or ourfaith
and we must view him for exactly what he is, a failed, desperate,
hate-filled and drowning politician, who is now stoking embers of
religious division to createa political base for himself amongst his
people.
"Nigeria has no place for a religious bigot who delights in insulting
the Christian faith.
"We urge the Federal Government to call Nasir El-Rufai to order and
not to overlook the possibility that his joke was not only contrived
but was actually calculated to create an even greater wedge between
Christians and Muslims with the attendant consequences.
"Had it not been for the maturity, fortitude, patience, decency,
forgiving nature and deep sense of restraint that the majority of
Christians have in our country, El-Rufai would not have been safe
anywhere in Nigeria today after cracking such an expensive joke."
El-Rufai had reportedly tweeted on January 28, that "if Jesus
criticises Jonathan's government, Maku, Abati or Okupe will say that
he slept with Mary Magdalene". In actual fact, El-Rufai didn't
originate the tweet, he just retweeted it like had done on several
occasions, retweeting tweets of his young associates.
The tweet came from the handle @zebbook owned by a Bukola Ogunyemi who
isprobably a Christian.
Nasir El-Rufai had since apologised about the tweet which has been a
subject of controversy.

Friar kills himself at monastery
A Franciscan friar accused of sexually abusing students at Catholic
high schools in Ohio and Pennsylvania killed himself at a western
Pennsylvania monastery, police said on Saturday.
Brother Stephen Baker, 62, was found dead of a self-inflicted knife
wound at the St Bernardine Monastery in Hollidaysburg on Saturday
morning, Police Chief Roger White said. He declined to say whether a
note was found.
Baker was named in legal settlements last week involving 11 men who
alleged that he sexually abused them at a Catholic high school in
northeast Ohio three decades ago. The undisclosed financial
settlements announced on 16 January involved his contact with students
at John F Kennedy High School in Warren, Ohio from 1986-90.
The Youngstown diocese previously said it was unaware of the
allegations until nearly 20 years after the alleged abuse.
"Let us continue to pray for all victims of abuse, for Brother Baker's
family and therepose of his soul," Youngstown Bishop George Murray
said in a statement on Saturday.
School hired an investigator
After the settlements were announced, the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese in
central Pennsylvania said it received complaints in 2011 of possible
abuse by Baker at Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, about 95km
east of Pittsburgh.
Bishop McCort High School hired an attorney to investigate after
several former students alleged they were molested by Baker in the
1990s. Attorney Susan Williams said three former students had talked
to her in detail about the alleged abuse.
Baker taught and coached at John F Kennedy High School in the late
1980s and early 1990s and was at Bishop McCort from 1992-2000.
Bishop Mark Bartchak of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese said in a
statement that he was saddened by the news of Baker's death, but
declined further comment citing pending legal action involving the
diocese.
A message left for Father Patrick Quinn, the head of Baker's order,
the Third Order Regular Franciscans, was not immediately returned.
Judy Jones, assistant Midwest director of the Survivors Network of
those Abused by Priests, said the organisation still hopes people who
know about other abuse allegations against Baker will continue to come
forward.
"We feel sad for Br Baker's family but even sadder for the dozens of
boys who Baker assaulted," she said in a statement.

WORLD ICONS, AFRICAN ROOTS: NELSON "MANDIBA" MANDELA
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was
born in Transkei, South Africa
on July 18, 1918. His father was
Chief Henry Mandela of the
Tembu Tribe.
Mandela himself was educated at University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand
and qualified in law in 1942. He joined the African National Congress in 1944 and was
engaged in resistance against the ruling National Party's apartheid policies after 1948.
He went on trial for treason in
1956-1961 and was acquitted in 1961.
After the banning of the ANC in 1960, Nelson Mandela argued for the setting up of a military wing within the ANC. In June 1961,
the ANC executive considered his proposal on the use of violent tactics and agreed that
those members who wished to involve themselves in Mandela's campaign would not be stopped from doing so by the ANC.
This led to the formation of Umkhonto we Sizwe. Mandela was arrested in 1962 and sentenced to five years' imprisonment with
hard labour. In 1963, when many fellow leaders of the ANC and the Umkhonto we Sizwe were arrested, Mandela was brought
to stand trial with them for plotting to overthrow the government by violence.
His statement from the dock received considerable international publicity. On June
12, 1964, eight of the accused, including Mandela, were sentenced to life imprisonment. From 1964 to 1982, he was
incarcerated at Robben Island Prison, off Cape Town; thereafter, he was at Pollsmoor
Prison, nearby on the mainland.
During his years in prison, Nelson Mandela's reputation grew steadily. He was widely
accepted as the most significant black leader in South Africa and became a potent symbol
of resistance as the anti-apartheid
movement gathered strength.
He consistently refused to compromise his political position to obtain his freedom.
Nelson Mandela was released on February 11, 1990. After his release, he plunged
himself wholeheartedly into his life's work, striving to attain the goals he and others had set out almost four decades earlier. In
1991, at the first national conference of the ANC held inside South Africa after the organization had been banned in 1960,
Mandela was elected President of the ANC while his lifelong friend and colleague, Oliver
Tambo, became the organisation's National Chairperson.
Nelson Mandela is a world recognised icon of peace. He's currently a holder of the prestigious Nobel Peace Award!
God bless "Mandiba" for us!

Chime had left the country last September, ostensibly on a six-week

The delegation comprised the NGF Chairman and Rivers State Governor,
Mr. Chibuike Amaechi; Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio
and their counterpart from Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam.
Even though he handed over to his deputy Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi before
he left, his prolonged absence and silence have led to rumours over
his health and whereabouts.
Also, Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, who like his
Enugu State counterpart departed the country under the guise that he
was going on vacation, we learnt, is now stable following a surgical
procedure performed on him at a United States hospital some weeks ago.
Contrary to speculations that Imoke too might have been battling
cancer, it was gathered last night that the governor had undergone
renal surgery, which was successfully carried out on him.
Disclosing how Chime discovered he had cancer, the source said the
governor during a medical check-up in London noticed a small growth
around the left side of his neck and complained to his doctors who
dismissed it and gave him a clean bill.
Chime then left London to join his colleagues who were then in Germany
on an assignmentbut soon returned to London to complain again because
he was not comfortable with the growth.
It was at that point, the source said, that his doctors decided to
perform a biopsy, which revealed that the growth was cancerous.
The result, the source said, also discovered another cancerous growth
around his nose and doctors immediately went to work, promising to be
through within six weeks.
It later turned out that the initial six weeks was insufficient,
prompting the governor to seek an extension of his leave to enable him
complete his treatment in London.
The source added that now that Chime has been given the all clear, he
would soon come back home to Nigeria.
But he warned that with cancer, which has gone into remission, Chime
would have to undergo regular check-ups to ensure that it has not
returned.
According to the source, the only thing that isstill keeping Chime in
London is the slight swelling around his face which doctors are said
to be working on.
He said Chime's medical team had assured him that all things being
equal, he should be back at his desk next month.
On Imoke, the source said though the governor too had undergone
treatment for his kidney ailment, he said the Cross River governor's
case was not as bad as projected.
He said Imoke had renal surgery and was recuperating in a US hospital,
adding that the governor would soon return to his desk oncehis doctors
certify that he is good to go.
country since September, is being treated for cancer, investigations
has revealed.
But following the intensive treatment the governor underwent in a

Thursday.
Chime had left the country last September, ostensibly on a six-week
vacation, and he hadnot been seen or heard of until Tuesday when a
photograph of him and a delegation of the Nigerian Governors' Forum
(NGF), which had visited him in London, was released to the press.

Bizzare: Man bites "snake possesed" son to death
A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of biting his adult son to death to get rid of a "snake haunting him", Japanese media have reported.
TV Asahi said Katsumi Nagaya seriously injured his son, Takuya, on Friday at the younger man's apartment in Anjo, central Japan , by head-butting and biting him after the 23-year-old began writhing around and claiming to be a serpent.
Takuya was taken to hospital but declared dead a short time later, the broadcaster said.
The suspect reportedly told police he had attacked his son in order to remove the snake from his mind.

Bizzare: Hundreds of animals removed from Ohio man's house
Humane society members wearing protective masks removed nearly 300 animals including pigeons, chickens and rabbits from an Ohio man's reeking house this week.
Most of the animals are expected to survive including some that were sick, Sheila Marquis, an officer with the Humane Society of Dayton , Ohio, told Reuters on Saturday.
Workers on Thursday took away 60 pigeons, chickens and roosters from the house in Huber Heights, a suburb of Dayton. They returned the following day for 223 animals including 100 pigeons and 30 rabbits.
The sheer number of pigeons, which can carry airborne diseases, created a health hazard inside the house, Marquis said.
Authorities were tipped off by complaints about a stench coming from the property.
The animals' owner, who has not been identified, was very cooperative and knowledgeable about the birds, which included homing pigeons, Marquis said.
She said she thinks he just got overwhelmed taking care of so many animals.
"He told us he took some animals from other people and other pigeon organizations. That's how the cycle happens. He kept getting more birds and building more cages," Marquis said.
The man will be allowed to keep two dogs and some cats living in the house.
There was no word on whether he will be charged with animal neglect or abuse, a misdemeanor for the first offense in Ohio. Huber Heights has a ban on farm animals butdoes not limit the number of pets residents can own.

SHOCKER: Obasanjo Calls Rochass Okorocha A Failure
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is known for not letting people go scot free if he feels insulted by their words or actions. A show of his person came again on Saturday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital when he described Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha as a failure.
Obasanjo said this just as the Chairman of the Peoples' Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, likened the current crisis rocking the ruling party as a "surgery" which must bring some pain to members.
Obasanjo who was responding to guests who spoke during the grand finale of a civic reception organised in his honour by the South West Zone of the PDP said there was no way he could associate with Okorocha who had jokingly referred to the former President as his "colleague."
The Imo governor had earlier in his speech talked about his days as Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs to Obasanjo, saying he gave the ex-President advice that resulted in the good decisions that Obasanjo took while in office.
"Obasanjo is indeed PDP. But in the actual sense, he's a national leader. He does not belong to the PDP alone but a national leader of Nigeria. If I have another opportunity to advise him, I will tell him to be the national leader of the country and not the national leader of the party.
"We are here to give honour to whom honour is due. Obasanjo will remain immovable and unshakable. He is a man that is very difficult to describe. He represents different things to different people. But for me, he represents a former colleague. We both ran for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And later when he appointed me as his adviser, I gave him all the good advice.
"All the good things he did for those eight years, I advised him but all the bad ones he did, I travelled out of thecountry. I want to join Nigerians to celebrate this icon — this great and steadfast Nigerian, who is not afraid of fighting any battle. But when he starts fighting he doesn't stop until he finishes fighting. He's a general's general and a soldier's soldier," Okorocha said.
In his message, Governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, in his message immediately came to Obasanjo's defence and told Okorocha that, "I was not as lucky as Governor Okorocha to work with him Obasanjo. So I did not give him advice. I'm very sure that even the few things that he did were actually taken out of the bad advice of APGA where Rochas Okorocha must have represented.Baba, I say the good ones are from you, not from him (Okorocha)."
Obasanjo must have been boiling with anger or maybe just disgust where he sat. The former president when he spoke said he could not be a colleague to Okorocha.
"I met Okorocha a long ago by virtueof the fact that he was brought up inJos — one of the few cities that I found in the fifties and seventies as agenuine melting pot in Nigeria. He is a true Nigerian and when he wants to pull me down, he will say we are colleagues. How can I be a colleague of a failure? You are a failure in contesting the presidency of Nigeria!" Obasanjo said.
Tukur in his speech said the crisis-ridden PDP was undergoing a surgery in which pains must be felt for the ruling party to get over its current unhealthy state.
He said, "Let us fight and win unity, peace, development for our dear nation. The surgery we have started in our party, the PDP is in line with our vision for a better society and the aspiration of all Nigerians. In this surgery we are aware we must lose some blood, undergo some pains and challenges but surely the result will eventually be one sacrifice that we made for ourselves."

Legends of African Music: The biography- Fela Anikulapo-Kuti
It's almost impossible to overstate the impact and importance of Fela
Anikulapo (Ransome) Kuti (or just Fela as he's more commonly known) to
the global musical village: producer, arranger, musician, political
radical, outlaw.
He was all that, as well as showman par excellence , inventor of
Afro-beat, an unredeemable sexist, and a moody megalomaniac. His death
on August 3,1997 of complications from AIDS deeply affected musicians
and fans internationally, as a musical and sociopolitical voice on a
par with Bob Marley was silenced.
A press release from the United Democratic Front of Nigeria on the
occasion of Fela's death noted: "Those who knew you well were
insistent that you could never compromise with the evil you had fought
all your life. Even though made weak by time and fate, you remained
strong in will and never abandoned your goal of a free, democratic,
socialist Africa." This is as succinct a summation of Fela's political
agenda as one is likely to find.
Born in Abeokuta, Nigeria, north of Lagos in 1938, Fela's family was
firmly middle class as well as politically active. His father was a
pastor (and talented pianist), his mother active in the anti-colonial,
anti-military, Nigerian home rule movement. So at an early age, Fela
experienced politics and music in a seamless combination.
His parents, however, were less interested in his becoming a musician
and more interested in his becoming a doctor, so they packed him off
toLondon in 1958 for what they assumed would be a medical education;
instead, Fela registered at Trinity College's school of music.Tired of
studying European composers, Fela formed his first band, Koola Lobitos
, in 1961,and quickly became a fixture on the London club scene. He
returned to Nigeria in 1963 and started another version of Koola
Lobitos that was more influenced by the James Brown -style singing of
Geraldo Pina from Sierra Leone.
Combining this with elements oftraditional high life and jazz, Fela
dubbed this intensely rhythmic hybrid "Afro-beat," partly as critique
of African performers whom he felt had turned their backs on their
African musical roots in order to emulate current American pop music
trends.
In 1969, Fela brought Koola Lobitos to Los Angeles to tour and record.
They toured America for about eight months using Los Angeles as a home
base. It was while in L.A. that Fela hooked up with a friend, Sandra
Isidore, who introduced him to the writings and politics of Malcolm X,
Eldridge Cleaver (and by extension the Black Panthers), and other
proponents of Black nationalism and Afrocentrism. Impressed at what he
read, Fela was politically revivified and decided that some changes
were in order: first, the name of the band, as Koola Lobitos became
Nigeria70 ; second, the music would become more politically explicit
and critical of the oppression of the powerless worldwide.
After a disagreement with an unscrupulous promoter who turned them in
to the Immigration and Naturalization Services, Fela and band were
charged with working without work permits. Realizing that time was
short before they were sent back to Nigeria, they were able to scrape
together some money to record some new songs in L.A. What came to be
known as the '69 Los Angeles Sessions were remarkable, an indication
of a maturing sound and of the raucous, propulsive music that was to
mark Fela's career.
Afrobeat's combination of blaring horn sections, antiphonal vocals,
Fela's quasi-rapping pidgin English, and percolating guitars, all
wrapped up in a smoldering groove (in the early days driven by th e
band's brilliant drummer Tony Allen) that could last nearly an hour,
was an intoxicating sound. Once hooked, it was impossible to get
enough.
Upon returning to Nigeria, Fela founded a communal
compound-cum-recording studio and rehearsal space he called the
Kalakuta Republic, and a nightclub, the Shrine. It was during this
time that he dropped his given middle name of "Ransome" which he said
was a slave name, and took the name"Anikulapo" (meaning "he who
carries death in his pouch") .
Playing constantly and recording at a ferocious pace, Fela and band
(who were now called Africa 70 ) became huge stars in West Africa. His
biggest fan base, however, was Nigeria's poor. Because his music
addressed issues important to the Nigerian underclass (specifically a
military government that profited from political exploitation and
disenfranchisement), Fela was more than a simply a pop star; like Bob
Marley in Jamaica, he was the voice of Nigeria's have-nots, a cultural
rebel.
This was something Nigeria's military junta tried to nipin the bud,
and from almost the moment he came back to Nigeria up until his death,
Fela was hounded, jailed, harassed, and nearly killed by a government
determined to silence him. In one of the most egregious acts of
violence committed against him, 1,000 Nigerian soldiers attacked his
Kalakuta compound in 1977 (the second government-sanctioned attack).

Bamanga Tukur turns Davido; tells Governors- "PDP is bigger than 'All of You'"
The warning from Alhaji Tukur came as it emerged that the ranks of the
governors may finally have been broken by news of an alleged secret
tape recording of a meeting of the governors which was allegedly
transmitted through Tukur to the president.
The tape was allegedly the basis for the presidency's realization of
the depth of ill-feelings among the governors towards the president.
But Tukur's campquickly dismissed such speculation as nonsense.
Speaking while receiving the party's newest governor, Governor Mukhtar
Yero of Kaduna State at the PDP national secretariat yesterday, Tukur
warned the governors that power was transient.
Tukur who was himself a governor 30 years ago, spoke against the
background of the boycott of the scheduled peace meeting meant to
reconcile the governors with Tukur over the face-off that arose from
the crisis in the Adamawa State chapter of the party.
Yero who ascended to the governorshipfollowing the death of Sir
Patrick Yakowa, the immediate past governor ofKaduna State last
December, was in the party secretariat to familarise himself with the
national leadership of the party. He came along with his deputy, Nuhu
Bajoga; the acting chairman of the state chapter of the PDP, Alhaji
Isyaku Birni Gwari; business man Alhaji Sani Dauda; former Executive
Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, Hamisu
Abubakar, among others.
Tukur urged the governors, other elected government functionaries and
the people to work towards ensuring that the institution of government
was made very strong and not revolve round personalities.
Tukur said: "As governors, we should all agree to move our people from
the position of want to the position of plenty through empowering them
by giving them education to defend and empower themselves. We as
leaders of your party, our job is to ensure we support all actions
being done to help the promotion and development of our people.
"For us, the party is supreme, it is neither the NWC nor the president
and the governors; let us build institutions, not personalities. It is
the institution of the party itself that is supreme because all of us
come in and go. All of us are birds of passage; we come, we go.
"But we must do our best to support institutions of governance. Once
that institution is respected, organized and committed, we can be sure
that we will be able to raise our heads high in the comity of
nations."

Sheik Gumi on the verge of being arrested
Police detectives are studying audio and video tapes of the sermons in
which Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, asserted that the
late governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa perished
along with former National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi
while strategizing against Northern Nigerian Muslims, a top security
operative has told SaharaReporters.
Gumi allegedly affirmed that Yakowa had been engaging in an
anti-Muslimagenda, and that it was therefore necessary to avoid the
emergence of non-Muslims as governor of Kaduna State in the future, a
point that some senior citizens of Kaduna State raised in a detailed
memo in which they expressed concern that Gumi's weekly sermon was
likely to cause serious ethno-religious crisis in Kaduna town.
According to the source, the eminentpersonalities from Kaduna are of

late governor of Kaduna State, Mr.

Armstrong confesses doping throughout his career
As earlier reported on this blog Lance Armstrong told Oprah during the
first of a two-part interview Thursday night, that he doped throughout
his career and might not have been caught if not for his comeback in
2009. His longtime friend and training partner George Hincapie, who
was along for theride on all his Tour de France wins from 1999-2005,
was forced to give him up to anti-doping authorities.
Lance also admitted that he was the ring leader of the US Postal
Service doping team .
''I'm a flawed character,'' he said.
Did it feel wrong? Oprah asked
''No,'' Armstrong replied. ''Scary.''
''Did you feel bad about it?'' Winfrey pressed him.
''No,'' he said.
''Even scarier.''
''Did you feel in any way that you were cheating?''
''No,'' Armstrong paused. ''Scariest.''
''I went and looked up the definition of cheat. And the definition is
to gain an advantage on a rival or foe. I didn't view it that way. I
viewed it as a level playing field.''
''I'm not comfortable talking about other people,'' Armstrong said.
''I don't want to accuse anybody.''
''This story was so perfect for so long. It's this myth, this perfect
story, and it wasn't true,'' he said.
Then Oprah began asking for yes-or-no answers to five questions.
Did Armstrong take banned substances?
''Yes.''
Did that include the blood-booster EPO?
''Yes.''
Did he do blood doping and use transfusions?
''Yes.''
Did he use testosterone, cortisone and human growth hormone?
''Yes.''
Did he take banned substances or blood dope in all his Tour wins?
''Yes.''
In your opinion is it humanly possible towin the Tour de France
without doping seven times in a row? Oprah asked.
Not in my opinion, Lance answered.
''I deserve this,'' he said ''It's a major flaw, and it's a guy who
expected to get whatever he wanted and to control every outcome. And
it's inexcusable. Andwhen I say there are people who will hear this
and never forgive me, I understand that. I do. That defiance, that
attitude, that arrogance, you cannot deny it.''
Armstrong said he started doping in mid-1990s but didn't when he
finished third in his comeback attempt in 2009.
''Have you made peace?'' Winfrey asked.
''No,'' Armstrong replied, ''because so many people have been hurt too
badly, and a 40-minute (phone) conversation isn't enough.''

Man City striker Tevez banned from driving
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been banned from driving for six months after failing to respond to police letters about speeding, reports BBC News.
The 28 year old denies he was driving when his car was twice clocked speeding.
He said he did not recognize letters about the offences were from police as he did not recognise the word "constabulary".
The Argentinian admitted two offences of failing to give police information at Manchester Magistrates' Court.
Tevez, of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, was also ordered to pay fines and costs of £1,540.
His solicitor, Gwyn Lewis, told the court: "He does understand the word 'police', but not more complicated words.
"The letters are written from Cheshire Constabulary and the word 'police' doesn't appear on it anywhere."

Like Father like Son: Amos Adamu's son, Samson, involved in FIFA $1million bribery allegation
A former sports administrator, Dr. Amos Adamu, and his son, Samson,
have been accused of financial impropriety in the bidding for Qatar
2022 World Cup.
The accusation was contained in a detailed report by The Sunday Times
of London, which called on FIFA to probe the alleged $1 million
bribery offer.
Based on this, FIFA, the world football governing body, has now called
on its top investigator to examine evidence that the winners of the
right to host the 2022 World Cup secretly offered $1 million (N150
million)to Samson, aged 26, whose father was then a member of FIFA's
executive committee.
Documents passed to FIFA by The Sunday Times showed that the Qatar bid
team offered the cash to Samson.
The money, it was alleged, was to fund a dinner and workshop on the
eve of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, though it cost only a
fraction of the sum offered.
The deal was brokered by the Deputy Chief Executive of the Qatar bid,
Ali al-Thawadi, months before the contest in December 2010 to host the
2022 World Cup.
Al-Thawadi denied knowledge of the offer when contacted (by The Sunday
Times) last week. However, after being presented with the evidence,
Qatar 2022 lawyers accepted there had been discussions and a contract
had been drawn up, but said the team had later backed out of the deal
after considering the "relevant FIFA rules."
World Cup bidders are prohibited from entering into any financial
relationship with relatives of the 24 FIFA executive committee
members, who vote to decide the world cup bidders.
Secret documents seen by The Sunday Timesshowed that Samson had been
allegedly offered $1 million to arrange the dinner by the Qatar
committee competing to host the 2022 World Cup, months before his
father was due to vote on which bidder should be allowed to hold the
tournament.
Adamu was one of 24 members of the FIFA executive committee, which
decided where the World Cup was to be held-bestowing international
recognition and billions of pounds in revenues upon the winner.
With so much at stake, it was gathered that the competition could get
dirty, even when FIFA rules prohibited bidders from entering into any
financial relationship with the voters or their relatives to prevent
improper attempts to influence the outcome.
The Sunday Times said it had uncovered an extensive paper trail which
showed how Qatar offered to pay Adamu's son the seven-figure sum to
host a dinner and workshop.
In the end, the amount was believed to have cost about a fifth of the
amount on the table.
Investigation also revealed that al-Thawadi, the deputy chief
executive of the Qatar bid who had brokered the deal with Samson, had
denied any knowledge of the arrangement when he was first approached
last week.
When presented with this newspaper's evidence, Qatar admitted that the
deal had been negotiated but said it had later pulled out after taking
FIFA's rules into consideration.
The funding of the glittering dinner remains shrouded in mystery.
Invoices seen by The Sunday Times indicate that the event, called the
African Legends' gala dinner, cost about $220,000, a sum apparently
way beyond the means of Samson's company which had been set up months
before with only £4,000 in share capital.
Meanwhile, Qatar has said it had no financialinvolvement and that no
other sponsors were publicly linked to the dinner and guests were not
charged for their tickets.
The oil-rich Gulf state has been forced to fend off a string of
bribery allegations since it won the right to host the 2022 finals in
December 2010-but no smoking gun has been found.
Qatar, a tiny nation of 1.6 million people, won with the support of 14
FIFA Executive Committee members despite having no football tradition
and the prospect of temperatures of up to 50 degree Celsius during the
summer, when the competition will be held.
Its bid committee vastly outspent every competitor in its campaign and
Jerome Valcke, the FIFA general secretary, admitted in a leaked e-mail
that Qatar had "bought the WC."
He later said he was referring to the vast amount of money spent on
marketing the bid.
Adamu was allegedly secretly filmed by The Sunday Times in September
2010, three months after the African Legends' dinner, offering to sell
his vote on the 2018 World Cup for a payment of £800,000 into his
personal bank account, which he said, he would use to build football
pitches in Nigeria.
But his 2022 vote was not for sale because he had already pledged it
to Qatar. FIFA later sacked him from the executive committee.
He was stripped of his World Cup vote and banned from football for three years.

Lance Armstrong to finally admit doping charges on Oprah's show
Lance Armstrong will make a limited confession to doping during his
televised interview with Oprah Winfrey next week, according to a
person with knowledge of thesituation.
Lance Armstrong's career highlights may be tainted, but they're still
worth remembering .
Armstrong, who has long denied doping, will also offer an apology
during the interview scheduled to be taped Monday at his home
inAustin, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity
because there was no authorization to speak publicly on the matter.
While not directly saying he would confess or apologize, Armstrong
sent a text message to The Associated Press early Saturday that
said:"I told her (Winfrey) to go wherever she wants and I'll answer
the questions directly, honestly and candidly. That's all I can say."
The 41-year-old Armstrong, who vehemently denied doping for years, has
not spoken publicly about the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency report last year
that cast him as the leader of a sophisticated and brazen doping
program on his U.S. Postal Service teams that included use of
steroids, blood boosters and illegal blood transfusions.
The USADA report led to Armstrong being stripped of his seven Tour de
France titles and given a lifetime ban from the sport.
Several outlets had reported that Armstrong was considering a
confession. The interview will be broadcast Thursday on the Oprah
Winfrey Network and oprah.com.
He no longer has Nike's support.
A confession would come at a time when Armstrong is still facing some
legal troubles.
Armstrong faces a federal whistle-blower lawsuit filed by former
teammate Floyd Landis accusing him of defrauding the U.S. Postal
Service, but the U.S. Department of Justice has yet to announce if it
will join the case. The British newspaper The Sunday Times is suing
Armstrong to recover about$500,000 it paid him to settle a libel
lawsuit.
A Dallas-based promotions company has threatened to sue Armstrong to
recover morethan $7.5 million it paid him as a bonus for winning the
Tour de France.
But potential perjury charges stemming from his sworn testimony
denying doping in a 2005 arbitration fight over the bonus payments
have passed the statute of limitations.
Armstrong lost most of his personal sponsorship – worth tens of
millions of dollars – after USADA issued its report and he left the
board of the Livestrong cancer-fighting charity he founded in 1997. He
is stillsaid to be worth an estimated $100 million.
Livestrong might be one reason to issue an apology or make a
confession. The charity supports cancer patients and still faces an
image problem because of its association with its famous founder.
Armstrong could also be hoping a confessionwould allow him to return
to competition in elite triathlon or running events, but World
Anti-Doping Code rules state his lifetime ban cannot be reduced to
less than eight years. WADA and U.S. Anti-Doping officials could agree
to reduce the ban further depending on what new information Armstrong
provides and his level of cooperation.
Armstrong met with USADA officials recently to explore a "pathway to
redemption," according to a report by "60 Minutes Sports" aired
Wednesday on Showtime.

Nigerian gay pastors caught in hotel room
Two suspected gay pastors, Prince Ejimole, 26, and Lawrence Udo, 25,
have been arrested and charged to court after they were allegedly
caught having sex in a hotel room at Ijeshatedo, Lagos State,
southwest Nigeria.
They are facing charges of having carnal knowledge of each other
against the order ofnature before the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.O.
Awogboro.
The pastors were arrested at a popular hotel at Ijeshatedo where it
was alleged they usually lodged to have sex with each other.
Sources at the hotel said the duo usually lodged in the hotel under
the guise of praying.
They were arrested after Pastor Ejimole and Udo allegedly lured
another member of the congregation, Chidiebere Mozie, who needed
prayers to the hotel. But they allegedly forced him to have sex with
them.
Mozie alleged that when they got into the hotel room, Pastor Ejimole
started sucking his breast and was pulling out his penis as well to
penetrate into his anus.
He raised the alarm that attracted the hotel management who had
allegedly been suspicious of their activities.
The management contacted the police at Ijeshatedo division who
arrested them and took them to the station.
A four-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful carnal knowledge, etc. was
slammed on them.
The first count reads: "That you, Prince Ejimole and Lawrence Udo on
the same date, time and place did have carnal knowledge of each other
against the order of nature."
The second count reads: "That you, Pastor Prince Ejimole on the same
date, place and time did gross indecency by sucking Chidiebere Mozie's
breast, attempting to suck his penis and having carnal knowledge of
him."
The police said the offence the defendants committed was contrary to
sections 516, 214 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State of
Nigeria 2004.
They pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Awogboro, granted Ejimole bail in the
sum of N250,000 with two sureties, while Udo was granted bail in the
sum of N100,000 with one surety.

Brazil's football legend, Ronaldo to study in the UK
The former Brazil star, who retired two years ago, plans to study
advertising at a marketing communications company in the UK.
Ronaldo scored 62 goals for Brazil before retiring with health
problems. The former Brazilian international footballer Ronaldo is
moving to the UK to study advertising.
The 36-year-old, full name Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, is expected
to arrive in March, and could stay in Britain for two years or more.
The striker, who played for Brazil in 98 international matches,
scoring 62 goals, already has his own marketing agency called 9ine.
Ronaldo, who retired from football in February 2011, told Brazil's
Meio e Mensagem newspaper: "I feel a great need to become a student.
"I've learned a lot, travelling, living abroad, just in the school of life."
His company teamed up with marketing communications firm WPP in
Brazil, and its UK branch is expected to work with the player on his
arrival in Britain.
Ronaldo, who suffered a number of injuries during his football career,
gave up the sport as he was experiencing ongoing pain and problems
with his thyroid gland.
He added: "Eighteen years have passed and I've hardly studied, but I
have to immerse myself in something. I'll ask questions all the time -
just like a striker."
In 2007, Ronaldo was named one of the best players of all time by
France Football and was named in the Fifa 100 - a list of the greatest
footballers compiled by fellow Brazilian Pele.
But in April 2008 it emerged that he had taken three transvestite
prostitutes back to his room after visiting a nightclub in Rio de
Janeiro.
Ronaldo's engagement to Maria Beatriz Antony was cancelled in the wake
of the scandal. But it later resumed and she went on to give birth to
their first daughter on December 24 that year.

Ask My Elder Sisters, My Nickname is "The Tiger"- Pastor Adeboye
The above statement was made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed
Christian Church of God (RCCG), yesterday night during the January
edition of the Holy Ghost Night program which comes up every first
friday of the month.
Speaking on the theme: "The Wonders of His Name", the G.O. explained
the various ways and manners the Name of Jesus works for believers.
It was during the sermon he sighted his humble background stating
that the day he was given birth to, the sun was high up in the sky
while it rained.
In traditional african setting, this means that not far of, a
tiger was in labour.
"Go and ask my elder sisters, they are all alive. They will tell you
that one of my alias is "The Tiger". My other nickname is for my wife
only", he said.
He also said: "My mother wanted to call me Elisha, but when she got to
the church for my baptism she forgot and named me Enoch."
Hundreds of souls were won unto the Lord and people testified of His goodness. Among the testifiers were two young men who were
supposed to be sentenced to death by hanging, but were saved miraculously by God.
The theme for the February edition of the Holy Ghost Service is
"WONDERFUL" (which is one of the names of Jesus).

OPINION: Now That I Can Plant a Phone, What Next?
This is a new year, and as expected, we just got surprised by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Remember last year? It was the fuel subsidy song dancing on our lips. Now is the time for a new song unto the Most High- the song of mobile phones!
Alot has been said on the N60billion worth of 10million phones for 10million farmers.
I would just want to ask the President these questions:
1. Can theses phones be planted to yield more phones (because the rural farmers in picture know nothing more than planting and harvesting)?
2. Will the farmers have the President's number pre-installed on it?
3. These phones in question, are they iPhones or BlackBerry Porsches?
4. How would the farmers charge them (the phones), as most of these rural areas are without electricity?
5. Will the President also allocate a part of the 2013 budget to buying of recharge cards for these farmers?
6. What qualifications must a rural farmer possess to be among the lucky 10million?
7. Being a farmer himself, will Aremu Obasanjo be among the lucky few?
8. Rural farmers in this part of the world are mostly illiterate, how do they operate these special phones? Are they 'voice command' enabled?
9. Due to the fact that logistics, transportation and phone distributions werent covered in this calculation, will the President use out of his bogus salary and allowances to foot this bill?
10. Finally, I remember the president promising us last year, after the subsidy quagmire that he would provide special vehicles to ease transport problems.
One year on, and no sign of those vehicles. Did they disappear into thin air?

5 year old boy wins £9k payout from dentist
Cameron Jackson, had to have 13 teeth removed after suffering toothache at the age of three.
A five-year-old boy who had 13 milk teeth removed after suffering
severe toothache hasaccepted a £9,000 payout from his dentist.
Cameron Jackson was left with just seven teeth until has adult set go
through after the decayed teeth were removed two years go.
His mother Wendy Jackson, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, took legal
action against dentist Dr Raymond Matloa and has now accepted the
£9,000 out of court settlement, which Cameron will receive when he
reaches his 18th birthday.
The dentist, Dr Raymond Matloam, of the Fountain Dental Practice, in
Morley, has not admitted liability for the loss of Cameron's teeth.
Mrs Jackson, 31, said she had grown increasingly concerned about
Cameron's teeth.
She said she had always taken him for check-ups and brushed his teeth
but his toothache became worse.
'He was on pain relief every night because he would wake up screaming
in the night.' she said.
In 2010, he had the teeth removed at a dentalinstitute in Leeds.
Mrs Jackson said Cameron could not remember the operation but was now
very self-conscious about his appearance.
She said: 'He doesn't like smiling because he's scared that somebody's
going to say "Why have you got no teeth?"'
Cameron has now adapted to eating without his teeth, and is even able
to bite into apples with his gums.
Mrs Jackson said she had explained the settlement to her son by saying
it was like a visit from the tooth fairy.
She said: 'I'm glad that this is settled and we can begin to move on.
'Cameron's doing really well and being very brave about the whole
thing, which we're very grateful for.'
Cameron was just three years old when he had 13 of his milk teeth
taken out, leaving him with seven for the next few years
Cameron will receive the £9,000 when he reaches his 18th birthday, by
which time he will also have all of his teeth back
The family's lawyer, Heather Williams, from dental negligence
solicitors the Dental Law Partnership, said Cameron's adult teeth will
grow back when he is old enough.
She said: 'Although it is baby teeth that Cameron has lost, it will
still be a few years before his adult teeth come through.
'In the meantime, he has to deal with having fewer teeth than he
should - something that no one would like to go through, especially at
his age.'
The dental practice declined to contact when contacted by Mail Online.

Ms Nnaji and said he doesn't know who dumped who.
"Genevieve was a friend…(but now) I haven't seen her…I don't know who

Not necessarily because she wanted to, but because she had no choice.
There were just too many women around me (D'banj)."

Nnaji.
D'banj said:
"We have been trying to keep this quiet but yes, I am dating Genevieve
Nnaji. I am in love with her. It's been long I felt this way about
anyone. I don't know what other words to use to qualify my feelings.
She's my baby, she's my every thing and I love her."
People in the know claim that it wasn't only the other women in
D'banj's life that ended their relationship but also because Genny
herself was not committed to the relationship.

It happened Tuesday.
A photographer, who thought he spied Bieber sitting in his parked
white Ferrari, wasstruck and killed by oncoming traffic as he walked
across a Los Angeles freeway to get back to his car after snapping

Year's Day incident.
California Highway Patrol officers had pulled over Bieber's vehicle
Tuesday evening at an off-ramp of Interstate 405.
The photographer spotted the sports car, parked his own vehicle across
the street, crossed to get closer to Bieber's car and tookphotos of
its occupants, said Los Angeles Police spokesman James Stoughton.
Officers told the man twice to return to his car, CNN affiliate KTLA reported .
A car struck the paparazzo as he crossed back across the street to
leave, Stoughton said.
Authorities have not released his name.
"While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic
accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim,"
Bieber said in a statement.
"Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation
and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of
celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the
photographers themselves."
In July, a group of paparazzi chased Bieber in separate vehicles down
a freeway, whizzing past Los Angeles city councilman, Dennis Zine,a
reservist on the LAPD.
"He was coming up behind me, making abrupt lane changes, not giving
signals, cutting off cars," Zine said. The photographers were keeping
up with Bieber, thick on his heels.
Zine said he expected to see a crash and feared someone could die.
The lawmaker, known for supporting tough measures against obnoxious
paparazzi behavior, alerted the highway patrol, who ticketed Bieber
for speeding in his Fisker Karma, an expensive electric sports car.

A photographer, who thought he spied Bieber sitting in his parked

Barca turn down Liverpool's attempt to sign David Villa
Liverpool have been rebuffed in a bold attempt to take Barcelona
striker David Villa on loan.
The 31-year-old is frustrated at the Nou Camp due to his lack of game
time and is keen to come to England.
However, Barcelona will not entertain the idea of letting the Spain
international go out on loan and will only consider a bumper transfer
offer to sell in this window.
David Villa has found opportunities hard to come by at Barca this term
but his goalscoring record with both the Catalan giants and Spain is
exceptional.
Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers has already agreed a deal with
Chelsea for Daniel Sturridge and is advanced with talks over a move
for Thomas Ince. However, that deal has dragged because Blackpool want
£6million for a player they bought from Liverpool for £250,000 18
months ago.
Villa was seen as a player of quality and experience who could share
the burden with Luis Suarez and fit into Rodgers' ideal 4-3-3
formation having also played on the left for Barcelona and Spain.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is in the market to bring in some
support up front for Luis Suarez despite his two goals against QPR.
