‘A decade ago Germany was the sick nation in Europe now the story has changed.’ Says Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, as she spoke on the Economic crunch that has caused unemployment rate to increase in Europe. The German experience isn't rocket science, what makes it spectacular is its result. It is the aggressive pursuit of an Employment plan that Nigeria can also learn from. A country with an unemployment rate of 5.2 %, is worthy of emulation especially by Nigeria with 23.9% unemployment rate. Germany's employment plan comprise of two doctrines. Mrs von Der Leyen the Labour Minister gives the first strategy as she responds to the question below. How did Germany solve her Unemployment problems? “The problem of youth unemployment is that schools cannot equip young people with the necessary working skills. A dual vocational training system is needed to become a skilled worker. That is what has made the German economy strong” revealed Von der Leyen. This strategy is what Germany refers to as the “dual education” system, which combines apprenticeships at companies with vocational training in schools. Secondly, the availability of capital to finance SMEs to complement the 'Dual vocation' policy. As Chancellor Merkel explained in one of her interviews, the problem of Economic inequality needed to be solved by empowering SME’s. It’s been observed that the ones with so much money are not using it while the companies who need cash badly are not getting it. This in subtle terms depicts how and why the gap between the rich and the poor widens. It cannot be over-emphasized that Small and Medium scale Enterprise is the backbone of any blossom economy. Back to Nigeria, what is there to learn from the German experience? 1. Improving,Redirecting and Repositioning Education: The bane of unemployment is poor education whether formal or informal. The quality of education will reflect on the quality of employees and on to the quality of the management that will affect how the company sustains. Business organizations are progressing because they are meeting a need or solving problems. Any deviation from this goal may attract feedbacks like profit loss and layoffs among others. To enhance capacity building in America and the rest of the world, the Ivy league launched The Massive Open Online Classes (MOOC) in partnership with Coursera. This project has been applauded for its role in rendering qualitative, specialized knowledge to participants across the globe via the internet. Another wonderful project complementing traditional schooling. On our part as a developing nation, Nigeria’s educational system is decaying with ehvery moment. The school isn’t even providing adequate theoretical knowledge to students let alone practical and pragmatic learning. The average student isn't acquainted with the latest Tech and Trends in his chosen field. Pointing out that there's little or no preparation for the labour market. Typically, the undergraduates are more concerned either about how to break free from the ‘bondage’ of school work or savoring the pleasures of school life. Basically, Education should solve contemporary problems not create more. In a discussion with a friend who studied Electrical Engineering, I argued about how disappointing it is to have a department as such that produces First class graduates in Universities and still live in a country without steady power supply. Pedagogy needs to change learning models from a job seeking academic to self-reliant and entrepreneurial outputs. More over, General Studies(GST) as a course should be mandatorily tailored to groom students on how to turn and carve their niche into money making ventures. As a matter of fact, there is a business side to everything. What men have achieved from following their talents,passion and callings is glaring for all to see.This is the season of creativity and Government should produce the enabling environment. About a month ago or thereabouts, CNN featured a story about Michael Kors, an American Designer and his venture into the Cosmetics world. Kors was said to own a brand worth 50billion US dollars. That is how far people can go when they move in the direction of their niche venture. In addition,The Silicon Valley and our own Computer Village have shown us as well how the world have moved away from “white collar” superiority to the ‘Grey collar’ dominance. My only concern is that Computer Village unlike Silicon Valley is not producing enough entrepreneurs with the mind of building big corporations. CV has become more of a base for young people with a daring heart to hustle and trade to earn a living. 2. Open access of SME's to needed Capital. It was last year or so, the news of one 8billion naira loan deal by a wealthy man to buy a Yacht hotel broke out. It took the media and its criticism to foil the deal. Then you ask yourself; 'Of what Economic value will that be to the common man on the street or the Economy?'. Imagine how many small businesses that money could start and finance? Banks are just too interested in giving out more Loans to the Affluent Rich to service their vanities. I dare any Bank in Nigeria to publish lists of how many start-ups they've granted loan. There seems to be a neglect to young businesses and government expects to solve unemployment problems? How impossible! For the sake of emphasis, Government needs to take comprehensive education and SME fundings seriously. Again it is not just about acquiring the skills, it should be more about grooming trainees to build sustainable businesses out of it. And Internship, empowerment and Loan support should form the nucleus of Government's Employment plan. Motorist runs out of gas, practices drums at side of interstate

Police said a man who ran out of gas on the interstate decided to set up his drum set and practice until help arrived.

A state police spokeswoman said troopers spotted the man playing his drums on the shoulder of Interstate 695 in Baltimore around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and stopped to talk to him, The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

The man told troopers he had run out of gas and decided to practice his drums until help arrived, the spokeswoman said.

The man's vehicle was refueled by a State Highway Administration truck and the drummer was sent on his way without a citation, the spokeswoman said.

Teacher suspended for sleeping in class

The Broward County (Fla.) School Board suspended a high school science teacher for two days without pay for allegedly falling asleep during class time.

The board issued the suspension Tuesday to Patrick Geller, 42, a science teacher at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, after students snapped photos of him taking a short nap during a class period, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Geller told the school board he had been exhausted due to being up most of the night with a sleepless infant.

The board ruled he failed to supervise his students and disrupted learning in the classroom, and suspended him for misconduct in office and incompetence.

"People make mistakes but it's a safety issue," said Gracie Diaz, the district's chief human resource officer. "There's more intense pressure on educators."

Geller, who has been with the district since 2002, has the option of appealing the suspension before an administrative judge.

Prosecutor in Berlusconi sex trial receives mail with bullets

The prosecutor in former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's sex trial has received a series of anonymous letters of threats, including one with two bullets, Milan's chief prosecutor said on Thursday.

The letters against Ilda Boccassini have become more frequent since she requested a six-year jail sentence and a lifetime ban on holding public office for Berlusconi, Edmondo Bruti Liberati said.

"In the last few weeks there has been a crescendo of anonymous letters containing serious threats against Boccassini, including one yesterday containing two bullets," Bruti Liberati said in a statement.

On May 13, Boccassini requested the jail sentence and public office ban for Berlusconi, who is charged with paying for sex with a Moroccan night-club dancer when she was a minor and abusing his office to have her released from police custody.

In a six-hour-long closing argument, Boccassini said the so-called "bunga bunga" parties at villa of the 76-year old billionaire media tycoon involved a "system of organized prostitution." Berlusconi has denied the charges.

The verdict is expected on June 24.

Mother Abandons Day old Baby

An innocent day-old baby girl found abandoned by an unknown person was discovered at Funmilayo Bus Stop in Orille-agege area of Lagos State Nigeria on Tuesday May 21st, 2013 has been rescued by Good Samaritans.



The baby who was reportedly wrapped with a dirty Ankara wrapper and dumped in front of a shop owned by a foodstuff seller, Mrs. Adeola Adefenwa, at 194, Ipaja Road, Orile, at dawn, was rescued by some human right activists from Committee for the Defence of Human Right, CDHR, and Concerned Human Right, Nigeria.

The baby was taken to Orile-Agege General Hospital, Oke-Odo where she was given adequate medical care and later transferred to Elere Police Station, Agege.

After some documentation at the police station, she was handed over to Sister Josephine Titiloye of the Catholic Archdiocesan Orphanage, St. Monica's Home at 1, Victor Odunaiya Street, Off Agbado Road, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

Before the human right activists came to the rescue of the baby, people thronged the scene of the incident to have a look at the abandoned baby.

Most of them rained curses on the mother of the baby who dumped her to her fate. Some referred to the mother as a heartless woman, who despite the pain of pregnancy and childbirth, could leave her baby to die.

While some were busy taking the pictures of the baby and posting them on the social media, others stood helplessly watching the baby struggle inside the dirty wrapper she was wrapped in.

The residents of the area said that it is common to see babies, sometimes twins, being dumped inside Mulero canal around the area. They added that while some are washed away by flood, some are left to die inside the scorching sun.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, Mrs Adefenwa, said: "I was doing the house chores when a call came in from a neighbour who said a new born baby has been dumped in front of my shop. I had to abandon everything I was doing and rushed down there.

"In fact, I was confused when I got to my shop. I didn't know what to do immediately and people started offering different suggestions. Some said I should call the police while some came up with different ideas.

"We were on this when some human right activists came in and suggested that we should first take her to the hospital and then proceed to a police station to report the case," she said.

A member of the CDHR, Blessing Igwe, who saw the baby and later called the shop owner, said it was unfortunate that people who were at the scene of the incident did not show concern about the health of the baby but were busy taking pictures of her and posting them on the social network.

"If I was not around to quickly call my people to come to the rescue of the child, maybe she would have been dead by now. When I saw people gathered at the scene, I moved closer to have a glimpse of what was happening. Immediately I saw the hapless baby, I called the shop owner and other activists in the area to come to her aid," she said.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the human right activist who took the baby to Orile-Agege General Hospital, Comrade Declan Ihekaire, National Coordinator, Concerned Human Right Nigeria, commended the management of the hospital for their quick response in attending to the baby immediately she was taken there for medical attention.

Ihekaire also commended them for the provision of free drugs and clothes for the baby who was left unkempt where she was abandoned.

He, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the way the people at the scene of the incident handled the case, saying that they were more concerned about taking the pictures of the baby rather than keeping her alive.

"Nigerians should understand that in this kind of situation, saving the life of the baby is more important than taking photographs and posting them on the social media," he said.

I regret sending my children abroad to study- Ex Minister

A former Minister of Works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, said he regrets sending his children to study abroad and advised wealthy Nigerians to desist from the trend.

Ogunlewe, who was a minister under the administration of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, weekend, said he struggled to meet with the financial obligations of that decision and realized it was not worthwhile.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who is now the pro-chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, opened up on his frustrations when the institution�s Alumni Association paid him a visit in his Lagos Ogudu residence.

Mr. Ogunlewe said he had to pay his children�s tuition �through the nose� and added that the transportation cost alone for his wards was enough to see them through their education back home.

The former minister said, the reduction of tuition fees in federal institutions by President Goodluck Jonathan is a welcome development and will be a huge relief to many parents and guardians.

Mr. Ogunlewe therefore enjoined leaders and other well-to-dos in the country to desist from sending their wards abroad for academic purposes.

Two students dead in OOU protest

Following the ongoing protest about the new introduced policies.

The armed police men came in the numbers as directed by the vice chancellor Prof. Saburi and Gov. Of Ogun state Sen. Ibikunle Amosun and started shooting sporadically at the student whom were conducting their protest peacefully.

Several students, including the university's student union president have been arrested and taken to Ijebu-Igbo.

So far two students have been shot with several others stranded in the bush of Ago Iwoye.

However, the cause of the protest could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Scientists in Glasgow have discovered a low-cost way to create 3D images.

A projector displays patterned light on the face on a mannequin. These patterns are used to produce a 2D image. A 3D image is then formed using a technique called "shape from shade"

Their system uses detectors which have a single pixel to sense light instead of the millions of pixels used in the imaging sensors of digital cameras.

The detectors can "see" frequencies beyond visible light, which researchers say could open up new uses for 3D imaging in medicine and geography.

They said the single-pixel detectors cost "a few pounds" compared to current systems, which cost "thousands".

It is hoped that the system's ability to senses wavelengths far beyond the capability of digital cameras and its low cost, could make it a valuable tool for a wide range of industries.

Researchers said possible uses could range from locating oil to helping doctors find tumours.

Crossword patterns

Prof Miles Padgett led the team at University of Glasgow's School of Physics and Astronomy, which developed the technique.

He said: "Single-pixel detectors in four different locations are used to detect light from a data projector, which illuminates objects with a rapidly-shifting sequence of black-and-white patterns similar to crossword puzzles.

"When more of the white squares of these patterns overlap with the object, the intensity of the light reflected back to the detectors is higher.

"A series of projected patterns and the reflected intensities are used in a computer algorithm to produce a 2D image."

He said a 3D image was then created by combining images from the four detectors using a well-known technique called "shape from shade".

This 3D computational imaging, or ghost imaging produces detailed images of objects in just a few seconds.

Conventional 3D imaging systems uses multiple digital camera sensors to produce a 3D image from 2D information.

Careful calibration is required to ensure the multi-megapixel images align correctly.

Beyond the visible

Prof Padgett said: "Our single-pixel system creates images with a similar degree of accuracy without the need for such detailed calibration."

Lead author on the paper Baoqing Sun said: "It might seem a bit counter-intuitive to think that more information can be captured from a detector which uses just a single pixel rather than the multi-megapixel detectors found in conventional digital cameras.

"However, digital camera sensors have a very limited sensitivity beyond the spectrum of visible light, whereas a single-pixel detector can easily be made to capture information far beyond the visible, reaching wavelengths from X-ray to TeraHertz."

The team's paper, 3D Computational Imaging with Single-Pixel Detectors, is published in the journal, Science.

​​‎​​BREAKING NEWS: Another collapsed building in Lagos traps two people

Two people are feared trapped in the rubble.
A yet to be completed three-storey building in Lagos, Saturday night, collapsed with about two people suspected to be inside.
The victims, who are labourers in the area, were sleeping inside the building when the accident occurred, according to witnesses.
"We heard a loud crash around 11 p.m. and people started rushing out of their houses," said a resident who did not want to be named.
"The two men, one is a Yoruba man and the other is a Calabar man, always sleep there. The brother of the Yoruba man just left here crying," the resident added.
As at 11 a.m., Sunday, there was no sign of rescue effort at the accident site located at Lateef Rufai Way, Liverpool Zone 2 Estate, Satellite town.
Residents say the engineer handling the building, identified as Chidi, was seen Sunday morning in the area, but on learning about the accident, he fled.
"He is well known in this area. Apart from this collapsed house, he is handling other buildings in this area," another resident, who wants to be identified simply as Mayowa, said.
"You can't blame the two men who were inside the building. Every uncompleted building here workers sleep inside," Mr. Mayowa added.
The incident is coming less than a week after another three storey building at Ojodu Berger, belonging to Foursquare Gospel Church, collapsed killing one and injuring four others.

Flying car crashes outside Elementary school

The flying car has long tantalized the imaginations of people everywhere. And a recent successful test flight by a Massachusetts company came with the promise that their prototype could go on sale to the public beginning sometime in 2014.

But another company's airborne vehicle had a much different experience on Friday, when their flying car crashed into a tree just outside a Canadian elementary school.

The Globe and Mail reports that the flying car, dubbed the Maverick, is produced by a company in Florida.

Police spokesman Gord Molendyk told the paper that the two passengers inside the flying car were injured in the crash but are expected to recover. No one else was hurt in the incident, which reportedly occurred just before 9am, local time.

The Maverick is far different than the other flying car that made headlines last month. Instead, this vehicle is more like a dune buggy with a parachute and giant fan attached to the back of the vehicle.

And while this particular flight did not end well, the company that produces the Maverick has in fact conducted a number of successful test flights. They've chronicled several of these flights on their website and they are fascinating to watch.

"The idea is to go beyond roads," Maverick's Raymond Siebring said in an interview last year. "We'll be using it to fly medical supplies and humanitarian aid in places that roads don't reach."

After gaining momentum on a runway of about 3,00 feet, the fan and parasail then combine to life the vehicle off the ground. It needs about an equal distance to safely land.

Molendyk told the paper that after the Maverick took after, it attempted to gain velocity but crashed into a fence and several trees before coming to rest.

In an email sent to the website Jalopnik, reporter described how the Maverick's inventors intend to use their unique vehicle:

"From what I know, pilot Ray Sebring designed the car to be used in 3rd world countries for missionaries. The idea is when the road ends, they put up the "Wing" and fly until there is road again."

Maverick's website describes their vehicle as: "The Maverick LSA design has been developed as an easy-to-operate – air, land, and snow craft. It is intuitive and safe to fly, drive and maintain by people in frontier areas of the world enabling them to use this unique vehicle in missions and humanitarian applications – in the world "beyond roads."

Though, for the time being, they may have to ignore the final line from Doc Brown in "Back to the Future." Because it would seem that where they are going, they do in fact, need roads.

Man awarded $59K for being wrongly diagnosed as near death

It's everyone's worst nightmare: Being diagnosed with a terminal illness and given only months to live.

Of course, there's always the extremely rare chance it was all a mistake.

Luckily for a traumatized Mark Templin, it was an incorrect diagnosis—one that resulted in an almost $60,000 settlement.
In 2009, Templin had gone to the Fort Harrison VA Medical Center in Fort Harrison, Mont., with chest pains. After being given a stent he appeared to recover. But he returned a week later complaining of problems with memory, vision, speech and headaches. After getting a CT scan, he was told by Dr. Patrick Morrow that he had terminal brain cancer and that he had only months to live. With a death sentence hanging over him, Templin, who is in his 70s, sold his truck, quit his job, held a "last birthday party" and paid for his future funeral. His son-in-law built a box for his ashes.
He even contemplated suicide, according to CBS News.

He was prescribed two kinds of medication to treat the supposed brain cancer. He was also given hospice care, a service provided to those with terminal illnesses.

Then, inexplicably, Templin began to get better. He went back for more tests and found he did not have brain cancer but had suffered a series of small strokes He did, however, have a lawsuit on his hands.

U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy pointed to Morrow's "negligent failure to meet the standard of care" in giving the diagnosis in 2009.

The judge noted that his ruling was influenced by Templin's actions in preparing for his death. "It is difficult to put a price tag on the anguish of a man wrongly convinced of his impending death," Molloy wrote in his ruling, according to CBS News.

Templin was awarded $500 per day for the initial period of pain and distress, and $300 for the later period, ending in the new set of tests.

The hospital was also ordered to foot the bill of the "last" birthday party and the prearranged funeral.

Fake Pope arrested in Rome

A Slovak street performer dressed in white papal vestments has been detained and fined by the police in Rome for bearing too close a resemblance to the late John Paul II, the police said on Friday.

"The problem was that he looked a lot like Karol Wojtyla. He was detained for usurpation of title which is a misdemeanour," a police spokeswoman told AFP.

"The cassock he was wearing has been confiscated," she added.

The man has been released and will have to pay between 154 and 929 euros ($200 and $1,200), depending on a decision by a judge, the spokeswoman said.

Another officer at the station where the 55-year-old man was taken quipped: "If he had been dressed like Tutankhamun nothing would have happened."

The performer has been working the main avenue leading up to the Colosseum in his white skullcap for weeks — alongside Roman centurion imitators and other performers — but police said they acted following an anonymous complaint.

A vendor selling miniature Colosseum souvenirs on a spot overlooking the Roman Forum said he saw the man being detained on Thursday.

"He was right here, near me. He was taken away by two officers in civilian clothes who were pretending to be tourists," he said.(AFP)

Four NYSC members docked for noise making

The corps members were at the premises of the popular Mapo Hall for their weekly Community Development Service.

The police had told the court that they had in the past written letters to the NYSC Office in Ibadan complaining about the noise often made by corps members.

Angered by the disturbance during Thursday's proceedings, Chief Magistrate, Adams Adeshina ordered the corps members to appear in the dock to explain why they should not be convicted for contempt.

The corps members, however, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.

Speaking on behalf of the corps members, the NYSC Liaison Officer for Ibadan South-East Local Government, Jonathan Maduka, said many corps members were unaware of the court.

He further said that there was no notice indicating that a court was located within the premises.

After listening to their pleas, Mr. Adeshina ordered the release of the corps members, warning them against further disruption of the court's proceedings.

He also promised to inform the appropriate authorities about the need to provide signboards indicating that a court was in session.

99 hoodlums have been arrested by officials of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit in Oshodi area of Lagos.

Just last week, the taskforce arrested 183 hoodlums and suspected criminals in Oshodi and charged them to court.

The suspected hoodlums who were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday at Oko Mola, a notorious area in Oshodi where hoodlums and suspected criminals snatch people�s bags and molest women, were taken to the taskforce headquarters at Alausa.

The ages of those arrested range between 13 and 35 years.

The 99 suspects included 25 girls, among whom is a pregnant 13-year old girl, Tosin Odebiyi, who ran away from her parent�s home in Abeokuta and a 16-year old girl, Shola Sunday who was found with a nine-month old baby and her lover, 20-year-old Abdullahi Wahab.

Parading the suspects, Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman said some of those arrested have been charged to court, saying that the underaged ones among them have been sent to the Lagos State Remand Home for rehabilitation.

He also said those with babies have been taken to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development for rehabilitation.

�Some of those arrested had been here before and had gone to prison and are back. We are trying to rehabilitate them. Many of them don�t have homes. They stay in this notorious area of Oko Mola where they snatch phones.

�We have arrested almost all the hoodlums in Oko Mola and we are waiting to see if others will replace them there. This raid on hoodlums will continue,� Sulaiman said.

While there is no official confirmation yet, I can pretty much say, with confidence, that D'Banj has signed Olamide to DB Records. Rumours have been flying around in recent weeks as they've both been seen at several events together. At this moment, Olamide is in  Atlanta with D'banj. JUST IN: Boy shoots younger brother at the back

There's been another child-on-child shooting in America.

A 7-year-old boy was shot in his northeast Houston home on Tuesday — and the gunman was apparently his younger brother, The Houston Chronicle reported.

According to ABC13.com, the boys were in the bathtub around 9 p.m. when their mother stepped away for a moment. Police say the 5-year-old brother then got out of the tub, found a .22 rifle and shot his older brother.

The injured child was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Officials say the bullet went straight through the boy's back, KHOU.com reported. He is expected to recover.

JUST IN: Nigerian Military Jet Crashes In Niger, Two Dead

A Nigerian fighter jet taking part in military operations against al Qaeda-linked Islamic militants in Mali crashed in western Niger, killing its two crew, Niger and Nigerian officials said on Monday.
The incident marked the first casualties in Mali for Nigerian troops, which form the largest contingent in a West African regional force participating in the French-led campaign to drive Islamist rebels from the country's desert north.
Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, said the plane was an Alpha jet stationed in Niger as part of a Nigerian squadron supporting the mission in Mali.
"An investigation is going on to find out what happened. They were on a normal routine flight about 60 km (37 miles) west of Niamey when something happened," Anas told Reuters.
Asked if there was any evidence of anti-aircraft fire, he said: "We don't know but it was inside Nigerien territory."
A Niger security source said the jet crashed near Dargol in the Tillabery region which borders Mali.
"The plane was not shot at. It was not in enemy territory so for now we are looking at maybe a mechanical problem," another security official from Niger, who asked not to be identified, said.

Hacked E! twitter account says Justin Bieber is gay

Justin Bieber recently snuggled up to his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez for a picture prompting speculation the pair were back together.

So it may have come as a surprise to some fans on Saturday when they read online that Justin is in fact gay after a message was posted on E! Online's Twitter account.

The tweet read: "Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!Online: I'm a gay."

The rather strangely written post was soon followed up by what seemed like a supportive message from Selena, which read: "Exclusive: Selena Gomez tells E! she will fully supporting Justin in his coming out."

Well it's nice that Selena apparently would "fully supporting" Justin if he decided he fancied the males but worry not you female Bieber lovers – you may still be in with a chance with the star (if you get to know him by following him around the world on what seems to be an endless tour) as the E! Online Twitter account was hacked and the messages posted were untrue.

The tweets were posted by the Syrian Electronic Army who hack the accounts of high profile people and organisations to attract attention in order to promote their political beliefs.

Singer, Asa facing lesbianism charges in court

Nigerian-born singer Asa is reportedly in court battling lesbianism charges.

The case before Justice Coker was to be heard when her star witness, Damilola Amolegbe was said to have declined being called as a witness, telling Asa's lawyers from Abraham Chambers that she couldn't be a witness in Asa's matter.

Having granted the music star much indulgence in the matter, the trial Judge then ordered that the case be closed and called for written address of the two parties.

Asa's first witness, Taiwo Olakunle of HiTv was suddenly dropped at the earlier trial stage when she was confronted with hard evidences.

Meanwhile her manager Janet Nwose, who was alleged to be having affair with Asa did not come up as a witness which has remained baffling and suspicious to legal experts.

How it all started:

It would be recalled that Asa and her manager, Janet Nwose had a suit against the publishers of a Lagos-based magazine, 'News of the People' sometime last year. They urged the court to declare that the statement and picture in the December 14-22 edition of the magazine, entitled "Lesbianism Tale Trails Asa and Manager" was defamatory.

Asa wants the court to declare that the allegation of lesbianism against her and Janet is false, illegal and a violation of their rights.

They are also asking the court to restrain the defendant from further publication of what they described as malicious statements against them, adding that the alleged defamatory statement was calculated to discredit and malign them in their 'unblemished' career as international music artists with high moral standing, which they have consistently conveyed in their songs.

Months after opening his night club, PoP, in Victoria Island, Mavin CEO and ace music producer Don Jazzy has shut it down. Heard he shut down the club down after realizing running a music label is different from running a night club.

PoP was shut down because it wasn't making money as expected. Heard some people will show up at the club just to take photos with him and leave. Also, some important people will buy drinks and not pay. Naija people sef. Lol. Well, he has shut the club down to concentrate fully on his music label.

Paul ‘Psquare’ Okoye reportedly abandons second baby’s mother in London hospital

Paul Okoye, one half of the twin duo Psquare has reportedly abandoned the mother of his second child in a London Hospital where she recently gave birth to a baby boy, at least according to citizen reporting site, Sahara Reporters.

The report says the 19-year-old mother of the child, Elshama Benson Igbanoi, was a former Miss Plateau State.

She reportedly gave birth at the Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital on Du Cane Road, London W12 0HS but sources say Paul Okoye is denying being the father of the baby and demanding a paternity test.

The lady's father Mr. Igbanoi told the press he had tried to make Okoye accept his responsibility but the musician has not been forthcoming with a favourable response.



The baby's mother continues to claim he is the father of the baby disclosing that she lost her virginity to the musician at the age of seventeen

According to SaharaReporters, the London hospital where she gave birth has not received any payments. "The hospital has been harassing both Elshama and her mother to pay hospital bills of over £5,000 that have been incurred," said one source.

The baby has been named after the Okoyes.

Popular movie actor Femi Brainard and Top Radio On-air Personality, Uche Nwokocha wedded on Saturday, May 4 (today) at the Otunba event centre, Maruwa garden, Alausa Lagos.



Femi Brainard, a cross-over actor, straddling both the Yoruba and the English genres of Nollyhood has starred in several movies and produces his own.

Uche Nwokocha on the other hand has a degree in Cell Biology in Genetics from the University of Lagos, works as an OAP and producer at Top Radio 90.9.

Bash Ali seeks Presidential help in breaking Guiness Book of World Record fight

Nigeria's boxing legend Bash Ali on Friday appealed for President Goodluck Jonathan's intervention to help him to actualise his quest to enter his name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The record, if achieved, would make Ali become one of the oldest fighters in the cruiser weight category in the world.
Bash also urged the president to support his initiative to establish six sports academies in the country to improve the nation's sports fortunes.
Ali, who has tried unsuccessfully to realise his dream which has lasted seven years, in spite of the inauguration of a Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the fight in 2006, accused some government officials of frustrating his efforts at getting help from Mr President.
In a letter of appeal addressed to Mr President and received on Friday by the Office of Chief of Staff to the President, Ali alleged that the officials had promised to thwart every effort made toward the fight, in spite of the several meetings organised in that respect.
"We had several meetings at the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Feb. 27 and an agreement was reached on how to successfully host this historic event.
"It was forwarded to the President by the Minister/Chairman of the NSC.


"Several important sports personalities, including President of the International Boxing Union and the World Boxing Federation, were all in Abuja as the new LOC was supposed to be inaugurated on March 5.
"The inauguration never took place and up till today, in spite of several calls and text messages to the presidency or the NSC, nobody has given me any reason as to why the inauguration did not take place," Ali stated.
He noted that the inputs of the likes of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the PDP National Chairman and Senate President David Mark, toward actualising his dream might be a wasted effort if Mr President did not punish those sabotaging the efforts.
The boxing legend also expressed regret that he was yet to succeed in his plans, in spite of his meeting with Mr President at the Presidential Retreat on Sports held on Oct. 22 in Abuja.
Bash Ali, 57, started his boxing career in 1978.
